Very simple, highly sensitive detection or quantification of target nucleic acids of interest has been achieved by: hybridizing mask oligonucleotides to regions in a single-stranded region of a nucleic acid to be assayed between which a region to be hybridized by an oligonucleotide probe is positioned, thereby opening the probe-hybridizing region and keeping the single-stranded region of the target nucleic acid stable, and then subjecting this nucleic acid having the single-stranded region to nucleic acid chromatography.

A housing for an immunochromatography apparatus capable of detecting the concentration of an analyte contained in a sample even if it is relatively low in concentration is provided. In the housingof immunochromatography apparatus having an observation window, the observation windowof the housingis made of a colored transparent plastic material having a transmittance of at least 20%, preferably at least 40%, so that a detection line displayed on a developing stripcontained therewithin can be seen therethrough, the other portion of the housing than the observation windowis made of a colored transparent plastic material having a transmittance of at least 12%, and the observation windowand the housingare simultaneously and integrally molded out of the same plastic material.
