A side airbag apparatus is provided between a vehicle body and a back seat, and includes a base housing configured to house an airbag and an inflator, a base member having upper and lower base attachment portions provided to sandwich the base housing in an upper-to-lower direction and attached to a portion of the vehicle body, and a retainer member configured to hold the base housing from a vehicle back side. Right and left engagement claws at an upper end of a back wall of the retainer member are arranged to engage respectively with engagement holes provided at a portion of the vehicle body on the vehicle back side. A virtual plane passing through the upper and lower base attachment portions and extending along a vehicle front-to-back direction passes between the right and left engagement claws.

Side airbag apparatus

A mounting structure of air bag device on vehicle body includes: a seat side block long in a vertical direction disposed on a side of a backrest portion of a seat; and an air bag unit including an inflator that injects high pressure gas at a time of application of an impact and a bag body that is deployed upon receiving the high pressure gas of the inflator. The airbag unit is built in the seat side block. The air bag unit along with the seat side block is mounted on a vehicle body side member. Retaining pieces are protrudingly provided in a retainer of the seat side block that holds the inflator and are inserted in openings of the vehicle body side member.

Mounting structure of air bag device on vehicle body

A side airbag apparatus can suppress the deformation of the periphery of a storage case by reducing a gas pressure applied to the storage case for storing an airbag when the airbag expands. A side airbag apparatus installed between a vehicle body and a rear seat includes a base storage portion that stores an airbag and an inflator. The upper and lower ends of an opening formed on the front side of the vehicle body in the base storage portion are provided with gas pressure relief portions for relieving the gas pressure generated when the airbag expands and deploys toward the vehicle body front side. The gas pressure relief portions are formed to make their widths narrower sequentially from the upper and lower ends of the opening toward the outside of the opening.

A method of folding together a vehicle side curtain airbag is provided that includes bending a base section of an extended air bag toward the outboard side of the vehicle and fully over onto a middle section of the air bag located directly above the base section. The adjacent base and middle sections are then rolled, as a group, by first moving a crease line between the base and middle sections toward the outboard side of the vehicle, then curling the crease line back toward the unrolled portion of the base and middle sections and then rolling the remainder of the unrolled portion of the base and middle sections. A top section of the airbag is collapsed in a pleated manner.

Method for storing a side curtain air bag

An airbag inflator performance test system includes: a cylindrical tank; a disk-shaped piston vertically movably disposed with a gap between the piston and an inner peripheral face of the tank, the gap allowing gas to flow; a piston rod that projects upward from the piston and runs slidably through the tank so as to guide vertical movement of the piston; a lower chamber defined within the tank beneath the piston; an upper chamber defined within the tank above the piston; an inflator disposed in the lower chamber; a pressure sensor for detecting a pressure of the upper chamber; and a piston displacement sensor for detecting a displacement of the piston in order to detect a volume in the upper chamber. After ignition of the inflator, an inflator local work and an inflator total work, which are indexes of the energy of the inflator, are calculated based on the pressure and the volume of the upper chamber.

Airbag inflator performance test system

An air bag system for a front-seat passenger, includes a main body portion of an emblem is brought into contact with a surface of an instrument panel at a reverse face thereof, a bolt provided on the reverse face of the main body portion to protrude therefrom passes through the instrument panel and a mounting portion of an air bag module and a nut screwed on and fastened to the bolt so that the air bag module is fixed to the instrument panel easily and rigidly without using heat clamping which is less stable in quality. There is no risk that surface sinks are generated in the surface of the instrument panel to thereby deteriorate the aesthetic appearance thereof, since there is no need to provide bosses on a reverse face of the instrument panel for heat clamping.

Air bag system mounting structure

An air bag module of a passenger side air bag apparatus is sized and shaped to pass through a glove box opening portion of an instrument panel. An opening in an upper portion of a casing of the module faces the inner surface of an air bag lid, which is molded in one piece with a top wall part of the instrument panel. A lower portion of the module casing is fixed detachably to a steering hanger beam via a lower locking mechanism capable of being manipulated via the glove box opening portion. The upper portion of the module casing is fixed detachably to the top wall part of the instrument panel via an upper locking mechanism. Both the upper and lower locking mechanisms are capable of being manipulated via the glove box opening portion for easy installation and removal of the air bag module, but reliably support the module, even when the air bag is inflated and deployed.
