An electrical connector assembly includes a housing having a cavity receiving a stack of contact modules each having a dielectric holder having first and second sides extending between a front and a rear and extending between a top and a bottom. Each contact module includes signal contacts having mating portions and mounting portions extending from the bottom for termination to a circuit board. The dielectric holder includes a press tab extending from the first side proximate to the bottom having press surface pressed downward by a seating tool to press the electrical connector assembly on the circuit board proximate to the bottom of the dielectric holder to seat the mounting portions in vias in the circuit board.

A contact is disclosed. The contact has a press-fit portion and a deformable portion. The press-fit portion is press-fit into a passageway of a circuit board. The deformable portion is disposed adjacent the press-fit portion in a direction opposite a press-fitting direction and has a shape adjacent the press-fit portion larger than the passageway. The deformable portion is plastically deformable.

Contact having a press-fit portion

A contact module includes a dielectric holder having right and left sides holding signal contacts. A shield structure is coupled to the dielectric holder providing electrical shielding for the signal contacts. The shield structure has a first ground shield provided at the right side of the dielectric holder and a second ground shield provided at the left side of the dielectric holder. The first and second ground shields are electrically connected together between corresponding pairs of the signal contacts and providing electrical shielding between corresponding signal contacts along a majority of a length of the transition portions.

Shielding structure for a contact module

A contact module includes a dielectric holder holding signal contacts with mating portions and a shield structure providing electrical shielding for the signal contacts. The shield structure has first and second ground shields. The ground shields have mating portions extending forward of a mating end of the dielectric holder. The shield structure has a ground clip at least partially covering the mating end of the dielectric holder and extending between sides thereof to electrically connect the mating portions of the first ground shield and the mating portions of the second ground shield immediately forward of the mating end of dielectric holder.

A connector reduced in width and easily mated with a mating connector is provided. An insulative housing of a connector has a substantially rectangular mating face. Further, the metal shell has a base portion, a curved portion, and a supporting portion. The base portion upstands from a peripheral edge of the mating face extends along the peripheral edge and encloses the mating face circumferentially in a substantially rectangular shape. Further, the curved portion is continuous to an upper end of the base portion and curved inward in a semicircular shape for guiding the mating connector. Further, the supporting portion has a shape hanging from the curved portion toward the mating face along an inner wall face of the base portion for supporting the mating connector, so that the insulative housing does not have an upstanding wall extending along a side face of a longitudinally extending portion of the metal shell and the metal shell supports a widthwise inner face of the mating connector.

Connector

An insulation displacement connection contact has a base plate extending along a longitudinal axis and having a mating end and an opposite terminating end. The base plate has a contacting portion positioned proximate to the mating end, a plate-like wire supporting portion integrally extending outward from the base plate at the terminating end, and an insulation displacement connection member positioned between the contacting portion and the wire supporting portion, proximate to the terminating end.

An electrical connector assembly is provided with a plug connector and a receptacle connector. The plug connector includes a housing and a plurality of conductive plug terminals arranged along a row in the housing. The receptacle connector includes a receptacle housing, a plurality of conductive receptacle terminals arranged along a row in the receptacle housing by an equidistance pitch, and a solder peg having a contact portion arranged along the row of the plurality of conductive receptacle terminals at a distance equal to the equidistance pitch.

Electrical connector assembly and electrical connector used therefor

A flat cable connector is provides that includes a housing, a contact, and a cover member. The housing includes a top surface, a side surface adjacent the top surface, and a lock section disposed along the side surface. The contact is received in the housing and includes a portion protruding from the top surface. The cover member includes a planar surface and a lock extending from the planar surface and engageable with the lock section.

Flat cable connector

An electrical connector is provided that has adequate shielding and does not compromise workability. The electrical connector includes a housing, an actuator, a shield plate, a plurality of signal contacts, a shield contact, a pair of pegs and a shield shell. An upper surface of the electrical connector is covered with the shield plate and the shield shell, both of which are made of a conductive material, and the shield plate and the shield shell are connected to a grounding pattern on a printed wiring board for grounding. In addition, shield paths are formed in an open space between the shield plate) and the shield shell to divide the open space into left and right non-shielded areas and a central non-shielded area. The connector can be shielded with reliability from an electromagnetic wave produced by the connector itself or an external electromagnetic wave with the open space remaining.

Electrical connector

An electrical connector is provided, capable of exerting a sufficient clamping force on a flat cable to reliably provide electrical conductivity while the connector is low-profile. The connector includes a contact having a base, a contact beam, and a pressing arm. The pressing force of a cam of an actuator is transmitted to a base through the pressing arm. Thereby, lift of the base is restrained, and a flat cable is reliably clamped, thereby providing electrical conductivity. Also, elastic deformation of the pressing arm reduces the range of variations in the contact pressure of a contact arm of the contact beam caused by the variations in thickness, gap, dimension, and the like.
