A sealing valvethat controls a communication state between a fuel tankand a canisteris provided. During stop of an internal combustion engine, the sealing valveis generally closed, and the canisteris opened to the atmosphere. The sealing valveis opened when the internal combustion engine is stopped, and differential pressure exceeding a valve opening determination value is generated between tank internal pressure and atmospheric pressure. A change in the tank internal pressure generated between before and after the sealing valveis opened is detected. When the change in the tank internal pressure is below a predetermined determination value, closing failure of the sealing valve is determined.

Evaporated fuel treatment device for internal combustion engine

Disclosed is an evaporated fuel treatment device that includes a sealing valve installed between a fuel tank and a canister, a pump module pressure sensor for detecting the pressure on the canister side pressure, and a tank internal pressure sensor for detecting a tank internal pressure. Upon detection of a significant difference between the canister side pressure and tank internal pressure, the device concludes that no open failure exists in the sealing valve.

Evaporated fuel treatment device of internal combustion engine

A sealing valve is installed between a fuel tank and a canister. A purge VSV is installed between the canister and an intake path. A pump module unit is installed to introduce a negative pressure into the canister. The negative pressure is introduced into the canister while the purge VSV and sealing valve are closed. An open failure diagnostic check is conducted on the sealing valve in accordance with the prevalent canister side pressure. A close failure diagnostic check is conducted on the sealing valve by making use of a differential pressure that is generated across the sealing valve as a result of the open failure diagnostic check.

A vapor passage that makes communication between a fuel tank and a canister is provided. A purge passage that makes communication between the canister and an intake passage of an internal combustion engine is provided. A sealing valve that controls a communication state of the vapor passage and a purge VSV that controls a communication state of the purge passage are provided. A tank internal pressure sensor detects tank internal pressure Pt. The purge VSV is controlled to purge evaporated fuel into the intake passage during operation of the internal combustion engine. The sealing valve is opened/closed depending on whether a predetermined purge is performed in an area where the tank internal pressure Pt is positive.

In an evaporative fuel processing apparatus, a fuel tank and a canister communicate with each other through a vapor passage, and an intake passage of an internal combustion engine and the canister communicates with each other through a purge passage. The evaporative fuel processing apparatus includes an open/close valve which opens or closes the vapor passage, a switching valve which makes the canister open to the atmosphere or isolates the canister from the atmosphere, a booster pump capable of applying pressure to the canister while the switching valve isolates the canister from the atmosphere, a purge control valve which opens or closes the purge passage, and an ECU which controls the open/close valve, the switching valve, the booster pump and the purge control valve.

Evaporative fuel processing apparatus and control method of same

A fuel vapor handling apparatus supplies a purging air to a canister by using a purge pump and purges fuel desorbed from the canister into an intake pipe. A controller intermittently operates the purge so that the canister internal temperature recovers from a reduced level caused by the latent heat of vaporization of fuel during an operating period of the purge pump. Therefore, desorption of fuel from the canister during an operating period is facilitated. Since the actual operating time of the purge pump is reduced, the life of a motor that is a power unit of the purge pump becomes longer.

Fuel vapor handling apparatus and diagnostic apparatus thereof

An evaporative fuel leakage preventing device is designed such that an adsorbent is disposed in an intake passage so as to adsorb evaporative fuel generated in the intake passage during stoppage of the engine and prevent evaporative fuel from being discharged to the atmosphere. The device prevents evaporative fuel that has been previously adsorbed by the adsorbent, and that is desorbed from the adsorbent due to the ambient temperature while the engine is not in operation, from being emitted to the atmosphere even when the engine is not in operation.

Fuel tank

An internal combustion engine, wherein fuel vapor adsorbed in a canister ( ) is purged into a surge tank ( ) through a purge control valve ( ). A target value of the fuel vapor rate showing the ratio of the amount of fuel vapor in the purge gas to the amount of fuel injection is stored in advance. At least one of the amount of purge gas or the amount of fuel injection is controlled so that the fuel vapor rate becomes the target value.

Evaporated fuel treatment device of an engine

A fuel vapor purge system connects a fuel tank with a canister and collects fuel vapor generated in the fuel tank by the canister. The purge system purges the collected fuel vapor to an intake passage of an internal combustion engine through a purge passage. A change of pressure due to fuel vapor generation in the fuel tank is measured while the purge passage is sealed. The pressure in the purge passage is differentiated from the pressure outside the purge passage and the purge passage is sealed. In this state, a change of the pressure in the purge passage is measured. After measuring the amount of generated fuel vapor, a test for leakage in the purge passage is performed based on the change of pressure due to the fuel vapor generation when measuring changes of pressure in the purge passage during a predetermined period.

Malfunction test apparatus for fuel vapor purge system

A cylinder injection type lean-burn internal combustion engine is capable of executing the purging of a vapor fuel without disturbing a state of an air-fuel mixture in a combustion chamber. The vapor fuel produced in a fuel tank is guided to a purge port provided at an intake passageway of the lean-burn internal combustion engine, and subsequently supplied along an intake air swirl flow into the combustion chamber. The vapor fuel is thereby partially concentrated in any one of a combustible air-fuel mixture layer and an air layer in the combustion chamber.

Method and apparatus for processing vapor fuel of lean-burn internal combustion engine

In an internal combustion engine in which a throttle valve is substantially fully opened in most of the operating regions such as an in-cylinder injection type internal combustion engine, a technique is provided capable of effectively processing an evaporative fuel while stabilizing a combustion state of the internal combustion engine even in the case that an amount of evaporative fuel generated in a fuel tank or the like is increased. To achieve this technique, a purge amount of evaporative fuel is increased by increasing a differential pressure between an upstream portion and a downstream portion of a purge passage, and the differential pressure between an upstream portion and a downstream portion of a purge passage, and the differential pressure is adjusted in accordance with the combustion state of the internal combustion engine at that time, thereby making it possible to purge the maximum amount of evaporative fuel within a range in which the combustion state is not unstabilized.
