A rotor includes: a plurality of permanent magnets divided at regular intervals in a circumferential direction around a shaft, and provided in an axial direction; a first protection ring for positioning and holding ends in the axial direction of the permanent magnets; a second protection ring for positioning and holding other ends in the axial direction of the permanent magnets; and a protection cover covering outer circumferential surfaces of the permanent magnets, the first protection ring, and the second protection ring, and having a uniform thickness in a radial direction.

A squirrel-cage rotor includes a slot having an outside circumference edge which is near the outer side of the rotor iron core and has a first corner at one end and a second corner at the other end and whose shape expands toward the outer side beyond a first virtual circle that connects the first corner and the second corner and is concentric with the rotor iron core. It also has an inside circumference edge which is near the inner side and has a third corner having a curvature radius smaller than that of the first corner at one end and a fourth corner having a curvature radius smaller than that of the second corner at the other end and whose shape expands toward the outer side beyond a second virtual circle that connects the third corner and the fourth corner and is concentric with the rotor iron core.

In a rotary electric machine, a conductive member surrounds a shaft and a plurality of permanent magnets provided on an outer peripheral portion of the shaft as a whole, and a holding member surrounds the shaft, the plurality of permanent magnets, and the conductive member as a whole. A conductivity of the conductive member is higher than a conductivity of the permanent magnet. The conductive member includes first and second opposing portions that oppose each other via a gap in a circumferential direction. An inter-opposing portion region existing between the first and second opposing portions is positioned within a circumferential direction range of an inter-magnet region existing between permanent magnets that are adjacent to each other in the circumferential direction.

A rotor includes a tubular sleeve member, a plurality of permanent magnets aligned in a peripheral direction on an outer peripheral surface of the sleeve member, and a tubular reinforcing member covering an outer peripheral surface of the permanent magnets. The sleeve member includes first and second end portions, which are spaced apart from each other in an axial direction, and an inner peripheral surface forming a through hole that is parallel to the axial direction and through which a shaft passes. The first end portion is a flange portion. The inner peripheral surface includes a first tapered surface, an inner diameter of which is continuously reduced toward the second end portion from the first end portion, and a tapered surface, an inner diameter of which is continuously reduced toward the end portion from the second end portion.

This squirrel-cage motor rotor includes a plurality of conductor bars provided at regular intervals along the circumferential direction of a rotor core, short-circuit rings connected to ends of the conductor bars, and reinforcement covers having axial-direction surfaces being in contact with axial-direction-end surfaces of the short-circuit rings. The reinforcement covers are enclosed by casting in the short-circuit rings. Holding rings are attached to the outer circumferential surfaces of the flange portions of the reinforcement covers and the outer circumferential surfaces of the short-circuit rings by interference fit.
