A subject is a polymerizable liquid crystal composition in which tilt alignment is easily developed and an optical anisotropic film obtained therefrom. A solution is a polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing one or more polymerizable liquid crystal compounds selected from compounds represented by formulas (1-1), (1-2) and (1-3), and a polymerizable liquid crystal compound represented by formula (2-1). In the following formula, for example, Zand Zare hydrogen; Wis independently hydrogen, fluorine or a methoxy; Wand Ware independently hydrogen or methyl; Xis independently a single bond or &#x2014;CHCH&#x2014;; and for example, Wis methyl; and Xis &#x2014;O&#x2014;; and m1, m2, n1 and n2 are 2 to 15. Moreover, Zis hydrogen or methyl; Ris an alkyl ester-containing substituent; Wis hydrogen; Xis &#x2014;COO&#x2014;; Xis &#x2014;O&#x2014;, for example; and m3 is 2 to 15 and q1 is 0 to 2.

A solution is a polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing an optically active compound having a binaphthol moiety, an achiral polymerizable liquid crystal compound and a photopolymerization initiator having oxime ester.

Polymerizable liquid crystal composition and optically anisotropic substance having twist alignment

To provide an optically anisotropic substance having a negative uniaxial phase difference film and a positive uniaxial phase difference film, and excellent heat resistance and sputtering resistance. The positive uniaxial phase difference film is formed in combination with a bifunctional polymerizable liquid crystal compound, the negative uniaxial phase difference film is formed in combination of the bifunctional polymerizable liquid crystal compound with an optically active compound having a polymerizable binaphthol moiety, and additional thermosetting treatment (postcure) is applied after the negative uniaxial phase difference film is photocured, and when glass transition temperature after the negative uniaxial phase difference film is cured is 85&#xb0; C. or higher and 115&#xb0; C. or lower, additional thermosetting treatment temperature is adjusted to 220&#xb0; C. or higher and 250&#xb0; C. or lower, and when the glass transition temperature is higher than 115&#xb0; C., the additional thermosetting treatment temperature is adjusted to 200&#xb0; C. or higher and 250&#xb0; C. or lower.

Optically anisotropic substance and liquid crystal display

A polymerizable liquid crystal composition is provided that can exhibit a uniform homogeneous alignment by coating the composition on a supporting substrate having been subjected to an alignment treatment. The polymerizable liquid crystal composition contains a mixture of polymerizable compounds containing a compound selected from a group of compounds represented by the formula (1-1) as a component A and a compound selected from a group of compounds represented by the formula (2-1) as a component B as essential components, and optionally containing a compound selected from a group of compounds represented by the formulae (3-1) to (3-3) as a component C and/or a compound selected from a group of compounds represented by the formula (4-1) as a component D, and contains at least one nonionic surfactant as a component E. Polymerizable liquid crystal composition and homogeneous-aligned liquid crystal film

To provide a polymerizable liquid crystal composition showing good coating properties even when a support substrate has a low solvent resistance, and having uniform alignment properties. A polymerizable liquid crystal composition is prepared by containing as components an acrylate polymerizable liquid crystal compound, a compound represented by formula (3), and a non-liquid crystalline compound having an acryloyl group or a methacryloyl group as a reactive moiety, and having a functional group including a hydroxyl group as a reactive dilution solvent in one molecule. When the polymerizable liquid crystal composition is applied onto the support substrate, dried and irradiated with light, the polymerizable liquid crystal composition showing good coating properties even when the support substrate has the low solvent resistance, and having the uniform alignment properties can be obtained.

A compound represented by the formula (1) is provided. A polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing the compound can be controlled in birefringence and is excellent in stability of a liquid crystal phase. An anisotropic polymer excellent in uniformity of alignment is obtained by coating and polymerizing the composition on a supporting substrate. In the formula (1), at least one of Rrepresents a polymerizable group, A represents a ring group, Y and Z each represent a single bond or alkylene; in which &#x2014;CH&#x2014; in the alkylene may be replaced by another group, and m and n each represent an integer of from 0 to 5.

Polymerizable oxetane derivative

The main aim of the invention is to provide a polymerizable compound that is excellent in the stability of a liquid crystal phase, a polymerizable liquid crystal composition, and an anisotropic polymer in which the optical anisotropy can be adjusted and a uniform orientation is excellent. An anisotropic polymer having a uniform orientation formed by polymerization of a paint film that was prepared by application of a polymerizable liquid crystal composition including a compound represented by formula (1) having a benzyl ester moiety in the minor axis direction of the molecule to a supporting substrate; wherein at least one of Ris a polymerizable group, A is a divalent cyclic-structure group, B is phenyl that may have a substituent, Y and Z are a single bond or alkylene, and m and n are an integer from 0 to 5.

A polymerizable liquid crystal composition is provided that is excellent in UV curing characteristics in the air and is excellent in orientation homogeneity, and a polymer film as a selective reflection film is provided that is obtained by orienting and polymerizing the composition on a supporting substrate. The liquid crystal composition contains a compound (1), a compound (2), a compound (3), a compound selected from a group of compounds represented by the formulae (4) to (6), and a surfactant. In the following formulae Yto Yand Yare each alkylene, A, A, A, A, A, Aand Aare each a cyclic group, Zto Zand Zare each a bonding group, Pand Pare each an integer of from 0 to 3, R, Rand Rare each hydrogen, halogen or alkyl, and Qand Qare each a polymerizable group. 

A polymerizable liquid crystal composition is provided that can contains a mixture of polymerizable compounds containing a compound represented by the formula (1-1), a compound represented by the formula (2), a compound represented by the formula (3-1) and a compound represented by the formula (4), and a amine silane coupling agent. The composition can form a polymerizable liquid crystal layer exhibiting a uniform homeotropic alignment by coating the composition on a supporting substrate, independently from the kind of the supporting substrate without a special alignment film. Examples of each of the components are shown below, in which ring T represents triptycen-1,4-diyl. 

Polymerizable liquid crystal composition and homeotropically-aligned liquid crystal film

A polymerizable liquid crystal composition is provided that has a wide range where a liquid crystal phase is exhibited, has excellent solubility in an organic solvent, and is facilitated in control of an alignment state. The use of the polymerizable liquid crystal composition provides a polymerizable liquid crystal composition that has good solubility in a solvent with high safety, such as PGMEA, and can control various alignment states. The polymerizable liquid crystal composition in one aspect contains a fluorenone derivative represented by the formula (1) and a compound having a bisphenol skeleton represented by the formula (2). In the formulae (1) and (2), Wrepresents hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, methyl or ethyl; Xrepresents hydrogen, fluorine, methyl or trifluoromethyl; Zto Zare bonding groups; Arepresents a divalent cyclic group; Yrepresents alkylene having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms; Arepresents a divalent group having a bisphenol skeleton; Xrepresents hydrogen, fluorine, methyl or trifluoromethyl; Wrepresents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or fluoroalkyl; Yindependently represents a single bond, &#x2014;CH&#x2550;CH&#x2014; or &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;; and nindependently represents an integer of from 2 to 15. 

Polymerizable liquid crystal composition and optically anisotropic film using the same

The purpose the invention is to provide a polymerizable liquid crystal compound which has an excellent solubility with other compounds, a high homeotropic property, and a spirobiindan-backbone, and a liquid crystal composition comprising this compound. The purpose is attained with a polymerizable liquid crystal compound represented by Formula (1). A polymer which is excellent in many characteristics can be obtained from this compound and a formed body having optical anisotropy, produced from this polymer can be obtained. In Formula (1), G is a single bond or oxygen; R is hydrogen, methyl (Me) or a group represented by Formula (a), wherein at least two of R are groups represented by Formula (a); P is a polymerizable group represented by any of Formula (P1) to Formula (P8). In Formula (a), a desirable A is 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; Z is a bonding group; m is an integer of 0 to 3; Xis a single bond or alkylene; Zis a single bond, &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;OCO&#x2014;, or &#x2014;OCOO&#x2014;; X is a single bond or alkylene. 

Polymerizable liquid crystal compound, liquid crystal composition and polymer

The present invention relates to a polymer satisfying at least two characteristics among the characteristics such that it has orientation of homeotropic and so forth; it has an orientation having no (or less) defects; it has a large optical anisotropy; it is tightly adhered to a supporting plate; it has a sufficient hardness; it is colorless and transparent; it has a large heat resistance; it has a large weatherability; and so forth and to a composition which is the precursor. The composition contains the following the compound (1), (2) and (3). In the above formulas, R is hydrogen or methyl, L is hydrogen, fluorine and so forth, A is 1,4-phenylene and so forth, X is trifluoromethyl and so forth, Y is hydrogen or fluorine, Z is &#x2014;COO&#x2014; and so forth, and n is an integer of 1 to 10.

The invention includes homeotropically aligned liquid crystal films obtained by applying a polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing at least one compound selected from the group consisting of polymerizable liquid crystal compounds represented by the following formula (1-1) to the following formula (1-3) onto a substrate having a polar surface, and polymerizing the composition: wherein Ris methyl or ethyl; Zis a single bond, &#x2014;COO&#x2014;, &#x2014;OCO&#x2014;, &#x2014;CH&#x2550;CH&#x2014;COO&#x2014; or &#x2014;CHCH&#x2014;COO&#x2014;; Zis &#x2014;COO&#x2014; or &#x2014;OCO&#x2014;; each Y is independently hydrogen or fluorine; X is &#x2014;OCFor &#x2014;CN; w is 0, 1 or 2; and a is an integer of 1 to 10.
