A silicone rubber composition containing 0.5-90% by weight of a metal powder and curable into a non-conductive silicone rubber having a volume resistivity of at least 1&#xd7;10&#x3a9;&#xb7;cm is useful for the sealing and encapsulation of electric and electronic parts because the metal powder is sulfided with a sulfur gas into a metal sulfide powder which prevents or retards the sulfur gas from reaching the electric and electronic parts.

When an air bag is prepared by laying a pair of silicone rubber-impregnated and/or coated base fabric pieces one on the other, with the coated surfaces of the pieces inside, and joining peripheral portions of the pieces together to form a bag, an addition reaction curing type silicone rubber composition which cures into a silicone rubber having an elongation at break of at least 1000% is used as a sealer and applied to the peripheral portions of the base fabric pieces, thereby achieving improved adhesion therebetween.

Air bag sealer silicone rubber composition

An amino compound having a secondary amino group directly bonded to a phenyl group is modified by silylating the secondary amino group. When the silylated amino compound is compounded in a silicone composition comprising an organopolysiloxane containing at least two lower alkenyl groups, an organohydrogenpolysiloxane, and a platinum base curing catalyst, the composition is improved in flame retardance to the level of UL-94 V-0 without sacrificing the activity of the curing catalyst.

A heat-conductive silicone rubber composition is provided. This composition comprises (A) an organopolysiloxane with an average of at least 0.1 alkenyl groups bonded to silicon atoms within each molecule, (B) an organopolysiloxane with an average of at least 2 hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon atoms within each molecule, (C) a heat-conductive filler, (D) a platinum catalyst, and (E) a methylpolysiloxane with a hydrolyzable group and a vinyl group, as represented by a general formula shown below. An addition reaction curing type silicone rubber composition comprising (A) an alkenyl-containing diorganopolysiloxane, (B) an alkaline earth metal carbonate powder surface treated with a diorganopolysiloxane, (C) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane, and (D) a platinum group metal catalyst has improved storage stability in that it gives off little or no hydrogen gas during storage. The composition has improved adhesion and a good ability to protect electric or electronic parts from corrosion and finds typical use in the sealing of electric or electronic parts.

Addition reaction curing type silicone rubber composition and making method

Silicone rubber compositions comprising (A) an organopolysiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded alkenyl groups, (B) finely divided silica, (C) an adhesive component, (D) a silicone-soluble organopolysiloxane resin component bearing at least one alkenyl group, (E) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane containing SiH groups in a specific mole ratio to the alkenyl groups in components (A) and (D) combined, and (F) a platinum group catalyst, exhibit excellent adhesion to synthetic woven fabrics for air bags. When coated onto woven fabrics and cured, the compositions provide air bag base fabrics of outstanding flexibility, sealability and deployability which remain stable over time.

A solvent-free liquid silicone rubber composition comprising (A) an organopolysiloxane containing at least two alkenyl groups, (B) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane having at least two hydrogen atoms each attached to a silicon atom, (C) wet silica having a BET specific surface area of 150-250 m /g, a mean particle size of 0.01-20 &mgr;m, and a sodium ion content of up to 0.35 wt % Na O, (D) an adhesive agent, and (E) a platinum group catalyst is useful for coating onto air bag base fabric to form a thin film having good infiltration, strong adhesion and minimized surface tack.
