According to the present invention, the amount of usage of a heat conductive member for fixing a self-luminous flat display panel to a metallic chassis member disposed at the back of the display panel is reduced in the thickness direction as well as in the surface direction. The invention further provides a technique for efficiently radiating heat from the display panel, suppressing cost increase. To this end, in the invention, the heat conductive member is a hot-melt adhesive having adhesion at room temperature and filled with a heat conduction imparting agent, and the display panel is fixed to the chassis member by a plurality of heat conducting sections of the heat conductive member formed discretely ranging from 0.3 to 0.8 mm in thickness.

Flat-panel display apparatus

The invention provides a technique enabling an image of high quality to be displayed while decreasing an effect of an outside light proceeding toward a back surface of PDP through a through hole for mounting an electric circuit on a chassis. A flat panel display of the invention includes a display panel, a metallic chassis having a through hole and joints for connecting the back surface of the display panel and the chassis to each other. The joints are on the back surface of the display panel distant from each other in a predetermined direction, and one of the joints is arranged at a position corresponding to the through hole of the chassis.

Flat panel display

Provided is a projector light source which can effectively project a light beam having a sufficient volume from a lamp as a light source, and which is highly accurate and is excellent in workability. The projector light source comprising an arc tube for emitting a light beam; and a concave reflector including a hold part for holding the arc tube, and having a concave reflection surface for reflecting the light beam from the arc tube so that the light beam outgoes through an opening of the reflector, the concave reflector comprising a first reflector located in the vicinity of the hold part for holding the light emitting tube, and second reflector located in a part other than the hold part, and made of a material different from that of the first reflector. Further, the first reflector is made of heat-resistant glass, and the second reflector is made a material containing a heat-resistant organic material having a thermal deformation temperature which is lower than that of the heat-resistant glass.

Light source for projector and projection type image display apparatus using thereof

A flat type display device is provided which is capable of accurately and easily assembling a spacer when arranging the spacer while reducing the danger of damaging the metal back. In the display device, a plurality of fine holes each having a fluorescent materials are formed on a light transparency substrate and a metal sheet is arranged by a black oxide film formed on the surface of the light transparency substrate side so as to obtain a light absorbing layer. A plurality of concave portions are provided on a surface of the metal sheet of the rear substrate side. A metal back having an openings corresponding to predetermined areas containing each of the concave portions is superimposed on the metal sheet, thereby constituting an acceleration electrode of two-layer structure. The spacer is inserted into the concave portion on the metal sheet exposed in the opening of the metal back.

Display device

A back substrate has a plurality of electron emission elements. A display substrate comprises an optically transparent substrate disposed opposite to the back substrate; an accelerating electrode formed on the inner face of the optically transparent substrate for accelerating electron beams emitted from the electron emission elements; and luminescent materials excited by the electron beams to emit light toward the outer face of the optically transparent substrate. A frame member supports the back substrate and display substrate on their peripheries. A vacuum chamber is defined by the back substrate, display substrate, and frame member. A conductor electrically connected to the accelerating electrode is drawn out to the outside of the vacuum chamber. A high voltage connector for supplying an accelerating voltage to the conductor is removably connected to the conductor.

The present invention provides a bright and high-resolution display apparatus having a dynamic range exceeding the number of gray-scale voltage (or current) outputs, which a signal driver is capable of generating. In accordance with the present invention, a select period, in which a group of pixels on each row is driven, is divided into a plurality of sub-periods. The signal driver supplies a voltage output varying from sub-period to sub-period to selected pixels through a signal electrode. The pixel is capable of expressing various values of a gray scale, the size of which is at least approximately equal to (the number of gray-scale voltage outputs, which the signal driver is capable of generating)&#xd7;(the number of sub-periods). By changing the ratio of the length of a sub-period to the length of another sub-period or the range of the driving voltage (or current), the dynamic range of the display can be further increased.

Display apparatus

A flat panel display device capable of reducing charging of phosphors and disposing spacers easily and accurately. The flat panel display device has a rear substrate including an insulating substrate provided with many cold cathode elements for emitting electrons, a display substrate including a light-transmissive substrate disposed to face the rear substrate, and phosphors disposed on the light-transmissive substrate for generating light when excited by electron beams from the cold cathode elements, and a peripheral frame member. Provided on the light-transmissive substrate is a metal sheet perforated with plural fine holes arranged in a matrix configuration and having the phosphors disposed therewithin to form a light-emissive region.

Flat panel display device

In the present invention, there is disclosed a reflective mirror whose contrast or resolution performance is equal to that of a surface mirror of a glass mirror for general use and which does not have any problem in reliability of resistance to environment and whose color shift or brightness performance is inhibited from being degraded. For this, in the present invention, a reflective film is formed on a glass substrate by use of silver mirror reaction, and a topcoat is formed of a colorless/transparent resin. At this time, a wavelength of a crest of a ripple indicated by a reflectance characteristic is constituted to substantially agree with that of a green luminescent line. Accordingly, a back projection type video display device which is satisfactory in the contrast or resolution performance can be prepared.

Back reflective mirror and back projection type video display device using the same

In a projector, the precision of color synthesis is improved and the generation of vertical stripes in the projected image is suppressed by a dichroic prism used for color synthesis that employs at least the following aspects. (1) The dichroic prism is formed using triangular prisms, in which projections or grooves are provided that have two faces parallel to two pasted faces of the triangular prisms, the projections or grooves being integrally injection-molded on faces of the triangular prisms that are substantially perpendicular to the light beam (i.e., the faces through which no light beam passes); (2) the dichroic prism is positioned using marks on the pasted faces of the triangular prisms; or (3) the dichroic prism is formed by engaging triangular prisms in which recesses or projections are formed.

Projector

A light guide panel and liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal cell array, a light guide panel or plate disposed on a rear surface of the liquid crystal cell array, and a light source disposed at a lateral side of the light guide panel or plate. The light guide panel or plate has a light incident surface on which light rays emitted from the light source are incident, a light-transmissive surface through which the incident light rays exit the light guide panel or plate toward the liquid crystal cell array, and a plurality of reflecting slant portions for directing the incident light rays toward the light-transmissive surface, wherein the reflecting slant portions are constituted by convexes or concaves which are substantially rectangular in plan view and substantially trapezoidal in sectional view.

Liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing backlighting

A video optical disk system which can record/reproduce information in the same recording format as that of a read only type optical disk such as an LD, and is therefore compatible with both the read only type optical disk and a writable optical disk. A writable optical disk exhibiting a C/N ratio of at least 60 [dB] is employed, and has information recorded thereon with the same address signals as those of the LD and in the NTSC direct FM recording format. An optical head and an image processing circuit which are included in a player unit are made common to the recorded disk and the LD, and characteristics of a focusing/tracking control circuit, an RF signal preamplifier circuit and a tilt control circuit which are included in the player unit are changed over on the basis of reflectances of both types of optical disks, thereby enabling both the recorded disk and the LD to be reproduced. The users of the optical disk system can produce original video software by themselves, and can effectively utilize a software stock of read only type optical disks.

Video optical disk system compatible with both read only and writable

An optical disc consists of a base plate, a reflective thin layer and a protective thin layer. As the base plate, polymethylmethacrylate is used. Since defects in the protective thin layer are a function of defects in the base plate, in order to reduce defects in the protective thin layer, defects in the base plate are reduced. For reducing defects in the base plate, a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate is used.
