A hydraulic fluid change indicating device for an automatic transmission includes a first deterioration rate calculating unit; a deterioration acceleration coefficient calculating unit; and a thermal hydraulic fluid deterioration calculating unit for calculating a thermal hydraulic fluid deterioration according to the first deterioration rate and the deterioration acceleration coefficient. The device further includes a second deterioration rate calculating unit according to an engine speed, input shaft speed, and output shaft speed; a mechanical hydraulic fluid deterioration calculating unit for calculating a mechanical fluid deterioration according to the second deterioration rate; and a determining unit for determining whether or not the thermal hydraulic fluid deterioration or the mechanical hydraulic fluid deterioration is greater than a predetermined hydraulic fluid change threshold.

A spline-coupling structure in which at least one of male and female members has a press-fit guide face provided at its end opposed to the other member before press-fitting of the members. The press-fit guide face includes a plurality of guide face portions smoothly interconnecting the end and bottom lands of the spline teeth of the one member to form axially outwardly expanded arcs, a plurality of second guide face portions smoothly interconnecting tooth addendums of the spline teeth and the end to form axially outwardly expanded arcs, and a plurality of third guide face portions smoothly interconnecting tooth flanks of the spline teeth and the second guide face portion to form axially outwardly expanded arcs. The first, second and third guide face portions are connected smoothly to one another. Thus, dragging between the spline teeth of both members is prevented during press-fit coupling, to maximize the function of crownings to reduce press-fitting load and provide a sufficient coupling force, and facilitate disengagement of both members from each other and allow reuse of both members.

A process and apparatus for controlling the decompression of an internal combustion engine for driving compressors, electric generators, and the like, the process including the steps of starting the engine with the decompression control engaged and the engine decompressed, partially activating the control when the engine reaches a first predetermined speed so that, as the speed is increased, the engine operates compressed, when the engine reaches normal operating speed, fully activating the control and, when the engine speed is decreased to a second predetermined speed below said normal operating speed but above said first predetermined speed, the control is reactivated for decompression operation of the engine until the engine stops.
