A sliver guide has a restrictor and deflectors for imposing uniform transverse forces on a sliver immediately before the latter is supplied to a feed roller in an open-end spinning unit, thereby spreading the sliver and loosening the core thereof. The sliver guide serves to prevent grain variations and neps that are otherwise caused in the spun yarn by the hard core and twists of the sliver which naturally form as the latter is being produced.

In a fiber opening device in open-end spinning unit, having a combing roller which is encased by a casing and forming a fiber transferring passage between said combing roller and said casing, a wear-resistant member, preferably a member having a pin shape, is provided at an edge of an opening, e.g. a trash exit port opening formed in said casing and communicated with said passage. The structure of the fiber opening device according to the present invention makes possible easy installation of the wear-resistant member, and prevents harmful wear or bruising at said edge portion of the opening in the casing.

When an open end spinning machine is stopped, a fiber supply to a spinning rotor is first stopped and thereafter, substantially simultaneously with stoppage of both a yarn take-up roller and a yarn winding roller, a yarn end is held by a yarn holding device at a time when it still remains in a region which undergoes the suction effect of a subatmospheric pressure produced in the spinning rotor. The spinning rotor is subsequently stopped. On starting, the holding of the yarn end by the yarn holding device continues even after restarting of the spinning machine until the subatmospheric pressure produced in the spinning rotor reaches substantially the same value as that produced during a normal spinning operation. Therefore, there is prevented any snarling phenomenon, resulting in a greatly increased success rate in the operation of connecting yarn ends on re-starting of the spinning machine.

Method and apparatus for starting and stopping an open end spinning

An open end spinning machine includes a plurality of spinning units. Each spinning unit includes a first yarn breakage sensing device assuming a yarn sensing, operative position, in which it contacts the yarn, when the spinning unit is in a normal spinning operation and an inoperative position, in which it is not in contact with the yarn, when the spinning unit is in a transient condition either from or to the normal spinning operation, and a second yarn breakage sensing device assuming a yarn sensing position at least when the spinning unit is in the transient condition. Upon occurrence of yarn breakage when the spinning unit is in the transient condition, such breakage is detected by the second yarn breakage sensing device and the supply of fibers to the associated spinning unit is interrupted by the second yarn breakage sensing device.

An open-end spinning unit has a housing having a cylindrical space, with a complementary cylindrical fiber-opening roller disposed in that space which communicates with a dust removing chamber having a dust separating zone and a dust discharge promoting zone, said zones being connected together through an intermediate passage positioned on the downstream side of a dust removing opening communicating with said space, a wall portion of the casing defining a downstream side of the dust separating zone being comprized by an inclined wall which faces an end portion of a partition separating said zones, the partition having an end wall which is inclined with respect to the vertical direction at an angle equal to or smaller than an angle of inclination of the inclined wall.

In the open-end spinning unit provided with a casing and a combing roller rotatably mounted in the casing, a spinning rotor producing a twisted yarn from individual fibers carried from a combing zone defined by the combing roller, a carrying space formed between the combing roller and the inside surface of the casing, a mechanism for feeding a bundle of fibers into an upstream terminal of the carrying space, a dust removing mechanism communicated with the carrying space for discharging dust particles separated from useful fibers carried to the spinning rotor, and a combing roller provided with a plurality of combing elements, helically mounted on a main cylindrical surface thereof, the inside top or bottom surface of the dust removing formed in the dust removing mechanism is projected inside to a level corresponding to a level defined by an imaginary plan of a rotational trace of either one of the terminal ends of the combing elements helically mounted on a cylindrical body of the combing roller, in the condition relative to the possible flying direction influenced by the component force of the centrifugal force created by the high speed motion of said combing elements of the combing roller.

A spinning machine is disclosed, which generally comprises a spinning rotor having a frusto-connical fiber sliding surface consisting of a first fiber sliding portion, onto which discrete fibers are first supplied, and a second fiber sliding portion connected to the first fiber sliding portion, a bottom surface, and a fiber collecting groove formed between the second fiber sliding portion and the bottom surface. The spinning machine further comprises a yarn take-up tube centrally extending into the spinning rotor to take up a spun yarn therethrough. The first fiber sliding portion forms an angle (.alpha.) with a plane of rotation of the spinning rotor larger than an angle (.beta.) formed by the second fiber sliding portion with respect to the same plane. The bottom surface of the spinning rotor includes a fiber guide portion, which forms the fiber collecting groove in cooperation with the second fiber sliding portion and is inclined at an angle (.delta.) with respect to the plane of rotation. This angle (.delta.) is so selected as to fulfill the condition .delta.=.epsilon..+-. about 5.degree., where angle .epsilon. is a measure of the inclination of the yarn taking off line, with respect to the plane of rotation, connecting the lowermost point of the yarn take-up tube with an intersection of the second fiber sliding portion and the fiber guide portion.

In an improved combing roller provided with a metallic wire mounted on a body thereof comprising a main cylindrical body and a pair of flanges coaxially formed at both ends of the main cylindrical body, a base portion of the metallic wire rigidly pressed into a right hand or a left hand helical groove formed in the main body and the working direction of the metallic wire coincide with the rotational direction of the combing roller, if one of flanges on a side of the combing roller corresponding to the direction of progress of an imaginary right hand screw imaginarily engaged with the above-mentioned right hand helical groove or an imaginary left hand screw imaginarily engaged with the above-mentioned left hand helical groove when the imaginary screws are turned in the direction corresponding to the rotational direction of the combing roller, is defined as a first flange, while the other flange is defined as a second flange, the axial size of the free cylindrical space formed at the side of the first flange is smaller than the axial size of the free cylindrical space formed at the side of the second flange.

According to this invention, a spinning rotor is increased in speed until it reaches a predetermined higher speed beyond a lower speed region and then decreased in speed until it falls within the lower speed region, in which a yarn ending is effected. Thereafter, the speed of the spinning rotor is increased to a normal spinning speed beyond the predetermined higher speed. During rotation of the spinning rotor at the predetermined higher speed, sufficient subatmospheric pressure is produced in the spinning rotor to stretch out the yarn end thereby to prevent the yarn end from being snarled. Also, during this higher speed rotation of the spinning rotor, sufficient fibers in the spinning rotor can be collected in a maximum diameter portion in the spinning rotor to be connected with the snarl-free yarn end in a favorable condition. The period of time, during which the speed of the spinning rotor is decreased from the predetermined higher speed and falls within the lower speed region, is relatively short being in the order of a few or several seconds. Therefore, it will be understood that there is no fear that both the yarn end and the remaining fibers are restored to their initial state during that period of time.

Method and apparatus for starting a spinning machine

Disclosed is an open-end spinning machine which comprises a feed roller and a top roller for positively feeding a spun yarn from a spinning unit, a traverse guide for traversing the spun yarn in a direction perpendicular to the spun yarn feeding direction, a winding drum for frictionally rotating a conical surface bobbin for winding the traversed yarn to form a conical cheese, a guide or guides for absorbing yarn path length variations caused by the traverse motion of the spun yarn and by the conical angle of the conical cheese during the winding operation, a device for adjusting the guide in response to the conical angle of the conical cheese. By utilizing this machine, a good-shaped conical cheese of an open-end spun yarn having a uniform hardness along the axial direction of the cheese is obtained. Furthermore, this machine can be utilized for winding of various cheeses having various conical angles.

Open-end spinning machine

Disclosed is an open-end spinning machine and a method of restarting the same. The machine comprises: feed rollers, for supplying fibers to a combing roller so as to comb the fibers; a spinning rotor, for collecting the combed fibers into a yarn and for twisting the yarn, connected to a power source via an endless driving belt; a pair of draw off rollers, for withdrawing the yarn from the spinning rotor, connected to a brake and to a main power source via a clutch; a traverse guide, for traversing the withdrawn yarn along a bobbin supported by a pair of cradle arms, connected to a brake and to the main power source via a clutch; a winding drum, for frictionally driving the bobbin to wind the yarn around the bobbin and form a conical cheese, connected to a brake and to the draw off rollers via gear trains, and; a controlling device, for controlling the brakes and clutches according to a predetermined program, by which, on the occasion of stopping said machine, the traverse guide is stopped at a predetermined position before both the draw off rollers and the winding drum are stopped and, on the occasion of restarting said machine, the traverse of the traverse guide is started toward the smaller diameter portion of the conical cheese, when a pieced joint formed between an end of the yarn and a newly spun yarn reaches a contacting line formed between the pair of draw off rollers. By utilizing this machine and method, the number of yarn breakages occurring during the starting operation is decreased.

Open-end spinning machine and a method of restarting the same

A yarn handling machine includes bobbins on which yarns are wound, forming cheeses. At the beginning of the yarn winding operation, transfer tail windings must be provided on the end of the bobbin. An arrangement for providing transfer tail windings includes a yarn guide movable between an operative position closely adjacent to the bobbin and an inoperative position spaced from the bobbin sufficient to prevent interference of the yarn guide with the formation of the cheese. In the operative position, the yarn guide serves for providing the transfer tail windings.

A yarn winding mechanism includes a reference point through which the yarn always passes during yarn piecing-up and normal winding operations, a pair of yarn taking-out rollers disposed above the reference point, and a traversing device from which the yarn is wound onto a cone cheese. In order to cause the winding mechanism to soon begin and then continue the normal winding operation after completion of the yarn piecing-up, a device for compensating changes in yarn tension is disposed between the traversing device and the yarn taking-out rollers with a yarn guide surface extending generally parallel to the axis of the taking-out roller, and the upper taking-out roller is formed with a yarn catch in one end face edge thereof on the larger diameter side of the cone cheese, the yarn catch being arranged in an optimum position with respect to the parallelly extending surface of the tension compensating device and the reference point.

An improved thread-draw-off guide attached to a spinning rotor of an open-end spinning unit. The thread-draw-off guide is provided with a cylindrical annular guide portion and a radial outer surface extended outward from the cylindrical annular guide portion and the above-mentioned radial outer surface is formed with a roughened friction surface characterized in that the coefficient of friction thereof against a yarn in a radial direction is smaller than the coefficient of friction thereof against a yarn in a concentric direction thereof.
