An information processing device includes a processor. The processor is configured to transmit to a tape drive a write request in one of a first mode and a second mode for accompanying data. The write request in the first mode requests to store the accompanying data in a buffer memory included in the tape drive without writing the accompanying data to a magnetic tape. The write request in the second mode requests to write data stored in the buffer memory and the accompanying data to the magnetic tape. The processor is configured to transmit a write request for one of multiple pieces of data in the first mode if a remaining amount of the buffer memory is larger than a predetermined threshold value, and in the second mode if the remaining amount is equal to or smaller than the predetermined threshold value.

Information processing device and information processing system

A tape apparatus includes a controller and a plurality of tape drives. The controller controls reading from and writing onto magnetic tapes by the use of the plurality of tape drives. Furthermore, when the controller receives a data write request, the controller writes received data both onto one of main data magnetic tapes and onto an auxiliary data magnetic tape. In addition, each time the controller receives a data write request, the controller writes received data onto a corresponding main data magnetic tape and adds the received data onto a common auxiliary data magnetic tape.

Tape apparatus, storage control apparatus, and storage control method

A magnetic head is arranged between two reels around which a magnetic tape is wound and contacts one side of the magnetic tape spanned between the two reels. A driver moves the magnetic head. A controller causes the driver to generate a driving force for pressing the magnetic head against the one side of the magnetic tape while keeping the magnetic head in contact with the magnetic tape. It is possible to cause the magnetic head to stably contact the magnetic tape even when the running position of the magnetic tape varies in accordance with the winding state of the magnetic tape around the reel.

A writing-system comprises a first and a second writing-device, and is connected to an information-processor-apparatus that obtains unwritten-data from the first and the second writing-devices when a notification is received, the notification indicating that the unwritten-data is generated while writing data on a recording-medium used by either of the writing-devices, wherein the first writing-device comprises a first writing-unit, when the unwritten-data is generated while writing data on a recording-medium, transmits to the information-processor-apparatus, dummy information for inhibiting the unwritten-data to be obtained by the information-processor-apparatus, and writes the unwritten-data to a memory-unit, the recording-medium and the memory-unit are included in a cartridge accommodated in the first writing-device, and the second writing-device comprises a second writing-unit that writes, on the recording-medium, the unwritten-data stored in the memory-unit when the cartridge is moved from the first writing-device to the second writing-device.

Writing system, writing device, and writing method

A header data storage unit stores therein header data that identifies each file. A header data reader reads the stored header data, from the header data of the first file written to a magnetic tape to the header data of a target file, in order in which the files have been written to the magnetic tape. Based on the number of files whose header data have been read, an input/output controller controls positioning of a magnetic head.

Control apparatus, control method, and computer product for magnetic tape device

A library device is provided which can handle cartridges with back bar code labels only, side bar code labels only, and both back and side bar code labels. A bar code reader reads back bar code labels of cartridges, and a mirror is attached to a wall of each cell in the cell drum to guide a laser beam from the bar code reader to a label on one side surface of a cartridge, for side bar code reading by the bar code reader.

Library apparatus

A library apparatus where multiple moving commands generated by several upper-order units are conveyed to a director. The moving commands may be sequentially conveyed through the same channel or may be simultaneously conveyed through different channels. The moving commands are then conveyed to an accessor controller which includes a real table and a plurality of virtual tables. The contents of one of the virtual tables is switched to the real table. Accessors are operative in accordance with the contents of the real table. The switching of contents from virtual tables to the real table enables the accessor controller to act as if two operation commands exist instead of one command so that a plurality of accessors can operate simultaneously.

The moving commands are then conveyed to an accessor controller which includes a queuing table for storing the commands. The queuing table permits the accessor controller to receive additional commands prior to the execution of the previous command. Therefore, the processing speed of the system is increased. Next, the commands are conveyed to a plurality of accessors which transfer the medium cartridges to the desired location. Several accessors may be operated simultaneously in parallel. The simultaneous operation of several accessors also increases the efficiency and speed of the system.
