A nonaqueous secondary battery is disclosed, comprising a positive electrode sheet containing a lithium-containing transition metal oxide as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode sheet containing a negative electrode material capable of intercalating and deintercalating lithium, and a nonaqueous electrolyte containing a lithium salt, wherein a current collector of said positive electrode sheet is made of an aluminum foil containing 0.6 to 2% by weight of manganese and not more than 1.5% by weight of magnesium and has a thickness of 5 to 200 &mgr;mm. The positive electrode current collector has improved mechanical strength against stress imposed during activation and charge and discharge cycles.

In producing an electrochemical battery constituted by a positive electrode, a negative electrode and an electrolytic solution, an electrode material coating composition is discharged from an extrusion type liquid injector having a slot, and applied while at least one uncoated portion is being provided on a running conductive support in the running direction, so as to produce a sheet electrode plate.

Method of producing a sheet electrode plate for electrochemical battery

There is disclosed a method for producing a sheet-like electric cell plate and an electrochemical cell produced by using the plate. The sheet-like electric cell plate is produced by a method which comprises discharging an electrode material coating solution from an extrusion-type slot die and coating the solution onto an electrically-conductive support running around a backup roll. The electrochemical cell comprises a positive electrode plate, a negative electrode plate, both of which plates are produced by the above method, and an electrolyte.
