A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member, an inner member with at least one inner ring, double row rolling elements, and a constant velocity universal joint torque transmittably inserted into a wheel hub and axially separably connected by a securing nut. A shoulder of an outer joint member of the constant velocity universal joint abuts against a larger end face of the inner ring. The larger end face of the inner ring is formed as a ground surface. An end face of the shoulder of the outer joint member abutted against the larger end face is formed as a ground surface or a lathe-turned surface. The surface roughness Ra of at least the larger end face of the inner ring is limited to a range within 0.1&#x2dc;0.3.

Wheel bearing apparatus

An IC tag () capable of contactless communication is affixed on any one or more of element parts constructing the bearing device () for the wheel. For example, the IC tag is affixed on a forging forming an outer member () or an inner member (). The place of installation of IC tagis preferably chosen to be a surface of the forged component part which is not machined subsequent to forging.

Bearing device for wheel

To provide a wheel support bearing device, in which the status of actual use is detected and stored as a history, an IC tag () capable of a contactless communication is affixed to the wheel support bearing device. This IC tag () is rendered to be a sensor incorporated IC tag integrated with or electrically connected with a sensor for detecting an object to be detected of the wheel support bearing device and a detection of the sensor is inputted through an input channel separate from a channel for the contactless communication. The sensor referred to above may be, for example, a coil and a magnet () capable of passing in the vicinity of the sensor incorporated IC tag () by the effect of a relative rotation.

Wheel bearing device and its quality management method

The outer member (23) of a constant velocity joint is supported inside of a tubular housing (5) and is rotatable and slidable in the axial direction through the slide sleeve (8) and ball bearing (9) inside of the tubular housing. Between the axle hub (2) and the outer member (23), mutually engageable engaging portions (26) are provided which enable the sliding engaging and disengaging. A selector device makes the outer member displace against force of a spring to change over the engaging and disengaging.
