An ink jet printing device including a printing head having a nozzle through which ink can be ejected. The head includes an internal chamber ink and ink ejection is caused by internal pressure pulses. The internal chamber is formed in part by a deformable diaphragm which prevents extreme ambient temperature variations from causing damaging liquid pressure fluctuations.

Ink jet printing head having a flexible film covered ink supply chamber

A printing head for ink-jet printing comprises at least one ink-flow passage in the form of a hollow chamber and at least one ink-jet nozzle coupled to the ink-flow passage. The hollow chamber has a substantially uniform depth over substantially the entire area thereof. Preferably, the head comprises at least two laminated sheet-like members, one of the members having a hollow formed therein to comprise the ink-flow passage, and the other of the members having at least one nozzle formed therein. The head further comprises a flexible wall in communication with the hollowed chamber and a piezoelectric transducer connected to the flexible wall for producing ink-jetting pressure changes in the hollow chamber. A method for purging impurities from the ink path from a drop-on-demand ink jet type printing head prior to or subsequent to use in a normal printing operation includes the steps of heating the ink path to a temperature above the temperature used during the printing operation and purging ink through the ink path during or subsequent to the heating step.

Method of purging impurities from a printing head

An ink jet printer wherein a mechanical vibration is applied by an electromechanical transducer secured to a printing head to the ink in a nozzle and a pressure chamber of the printing head when the ink jet printer is not in a printing operation state, so that an ink flow is formed in the ink passage within the period of time including the mechanical vibrating operation or after the completion of the mechanical vibrating operation. The electromechanical transducer is used when droplets are jetted out. An electromechanical transducer which is brought into contact with the printing head only when the mechanical vibration is generated can be employed. The nozzle can be covered with a liquid within the period of time including the whole of the mechanical vibrating operation.

Method for removing air bubbles or solid impurities from the printing

An ink-jet recording apparatus having a detecting means for detecting ink pressure or an ink-residual quantity in the ink supply. The detecting means has a light shielding means coupled to the flexible diaphragm of the ink supply so as to be movable responsive to deformation of the flexible diaphragm. An ink pressure variation of -5 to -10 cm H.sub.2 O results in a diaphragm displacement of 5 um/cm H.sub.2 O to 20 mm/cm H.sub.2 O.

Ink-jet recording apparatus

In an on-demand type ink-jet recording apparatus, which includes an ink chamber and a polarized piezoelectric element coupled to the ink chamber, the piezoelectric element being polarized as a result of application of a voltage of given polarity thereacross, ink droplets are ejected by applying droplet-ejecting pulses of opposite polarity to that used in polarization of the piezoelectric element for ejecting ink droplets from the nozzle for recording on a recording medium. In order to prevent loss of polarization of the piezoelectric element due to the application of the droplet-ejecting pulses, additional polarization-loss-preventing pulses of opposite polarity (same polarity as that used in polarization treatment of the piezoelectric element) are applied at predetermined points of time to the piezoelectric element to prevent loss of polarization thereof.

Fluid droplet ejecting system

An on-demand-type ink jet recording apparatus and process wherein the droplet size is controlled to effect halftone-gradiation recording. A preceding pulse is applied to the electromechanical transducer prior to the main pulse so as to control the position of the ink meniscus in the nozzle and thereby control droplet size.

Method for ink-jet recording and apparatus therefor

In an ink jet recording apparatus of the ink-on demand type, the recording ink is forcibly sent from a pressure chamber in the recording head to nozzles which jet the recording ink onto a recording medium. An ink cartridge is a closed-up rigid body having an opening therein which permits gas to flow in and out of the rigid body. The rigid cartridge body contains a flexible ink container bag which contains recording ink. A pressurized gas supply is connected to the ink cartridge body in communication with the opening thereof for increasing the pressure inside the ink cartridge body and for thereby increasing the pressure of the ink in the flexible container bag due to flexing of the bag under increased pressure. A cap made of elastic material is coupled to the cartridge body so as to be connected to the ink container bag in a liquid-type manner to supply recording ink from inside the ink container bag to the recording head under pressure to purge the recording head of bubbles and of ink previously contained therein.

Purging system for ink jet recording apparatus

A printing head for an impulse jet type ink-jet printing apparatus which includes a plurality of nozzles supplied with ink from a common ink chamber through ink flow channels and pressure chambers which are substantially perpendicular to the nozzles. Piezoelectric-crystal elements are disposed in each pressure chamber and have a length to width ratio not less than 2 to 1 and not greater than 20 to 1.

Method and apparatus for capping a nozzle of ink jet recording device

A method of purging or cleaning ink passages of an ink jet recording device of the type in which a series of ink droplets is ejected from an orifice of a printing head towards a recording medium by the volume displacement of a pressure chamber provided in the printing head, including the steps of applying pressure required for purging to ink within an ink supply source, keeping a valve to open wide and forming a flow of ink in ink passages in one direction towards the orifice, thereby to remove bubbles and impurities present in the ink passages together with the discharged ink.
