A composition used for an ingredient of printing ink, which comprises an organic pigment and a pigment derivative represented by the formula (I) in the acid form: ##STR1## wherein D represents a residue of an organic pigment other than azo, R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom or an unsaturated aliphatic, saturated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 represents an unsaturated aliphatic, saturated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, m represents a number of from 0 to 3 and n represents a number of from 1 to 4, provided that m+n is from 1 to 5.

Composition for printing inks

A pigment composition which comprises an organic pigment and a dioxazine pigment derivative represented by the following formula (I); ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represents a substituted or unsubstituted and saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group or aromatic hydrocarbon group, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 form a heterocyclic ring; L is an integer of 1-6; m is 0.5-3; and n is 0.5-3.5 provided that total of m and n is 1-5 or a salt thereof; and the pigment composition can be used with excellent pigment characteristics for various uses, and particularly, when they are used for paints or printing inks in the form of non-aqueous dispersion system, the dispersion system has lower dispersion viscosity and exhibits good flowability and there occurs no color segregation in the dispersion system and it has high coloring power and gives good prints or coats having good gloss and high transparency.

Pigment compositions

4,4'-Diamino-1,1'-dianthraquinonyl compounds which are obtained in a known manner and which are easy to agglomerate or aggregate owing mainly to their too fine particle size are conditioned by heating an aqueous suspension consisting essentially of the 4,4'-diamino-1,1'-dianthraquinonyl compound and water in the presence or absence of a mineral acid or an alkali. The thus obtained 4,4'-diamino-1,1'-dianthraquinonyl pigments are used in paints, printing inks, coloring of plastics and the like. The aqueous suspension is preferably prepared by desulfonating a 4,4'-diamino-1,1'-dianthraquinonyl-3,3'-disulfonic acid compound in a mineral acid such as sulfuric acid and then mixing the desulfonation reaction mixture with water or by once isolating the resulting 4,4'-diamino-1,1'-dianthraquinonyl compound and mixing the isolated compound with water.

Process for producing 4,4'-Diamino-1,1'-dianthraquinonyl pigments

Crude 4,4'-diamino-l,l'-dianthraquinonyl-3,3'-disulfonic acids or salts thereof are purified by subjecting an aqueous solution containing the crude products to salting-out using inorganic salts, the aqueous solution being adjusted within a range of from acid to neutral region, whereby a product usable as such for the production of 4,4'-diamino-1,1'-dianthraquinonyl red pigments having excellent pigmentary properties is obtained in high yields with industrial advantages.

Process for purification of crude

A desulfonation reaction mixture of 4,4'-diamino-1,1'-dianthraquinonyl-3,3'-disulfonic acid obtainable in a conventional manner is mixed in the form of an aqueous acid suspension with a surface active agent, followed by filtration, whereby filterability and flowability of the produced 4,4'-diamino-1,1'-dianthraquinonyl pigment are efficiently improved.

Process for producing 4,4'-diamino-1,1,'-dianthraquinonyl pigments

An anthrapyridone compound of the following formula (I), which is useful for coloring synthetic resins: ##STR1## wherein Q is --NH.sub.2, --NHCH.sub.3 or --NHCOZ where Z is phenyl or alkyl which may be substituted; X.sub.1, X.sub.2 and X.sub.3 are each hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxy, --NHCOR.sup.1, --CONR.sup.2 R.sup.3 m --COR.sup.4, --COOR.sup.5, --SO.sub.2 R.sup.6 or --SO.sub.2 NR.sup.7 R.sup.8 where R.sup.1 and R.sup.4 are each C.sub.1-4 alkyl, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each alkyl or hydroxyalkyl and R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 are each hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl, with proviso that when Q is --NHCH.sub.3, X.sub.1, X.sub.2 and X.sub.3 are each hydrogen, halogen, alkoxy, hydroxy, --NHCOR.sup.1, --CONR.sup.2 R.sup.3, --COR.sup.4, --COOR.sup.5, --SO.sub.2 R.sup.6 or --SO.sub.2 NR.sup.7 R.sup.8. Process for producing the anthrapyridone compound is also provided.

Anthrapyridone compounds

A cyan dye-donor element which gives good printed images to a thermal-transfer sheet and a thermal-transfer sheet comprising a substrate sheet and a layer containing said cyan dye-donor and being laid on one side of the substrate sheet are provided. The cyan dye-donor element comprises cyan dyes dispersed or dissolved in a polymeric binder wherein said cyan dyes comprise: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represents a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group; at least one dye represented by the following formula (II): ##STR2## wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each represents a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group which may be substituted, and R.sub.5 represents a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group; and at least one dye selected from the group consisting of dyes represented by the following formula (III): ##STR3## wherein R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 each represents a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group which may be substituted, R.sub.8 represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group which may be substituted, an alkoxy group which may be substituted or an acylamino group which may be substituted and R.sub.9 represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group which may be substituted or an aryl group which may be substituted, dyes represented by the following formula (IV): ##STR4## wherein R.sub.10 represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group which may be substituted, an aryl group which may be substituted or a cyclohexyl group, R.sub.11 -R.sub.13 each represents a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group which may be substituted, and R.sub.14 represents a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group which may be substituted or an alkoxy group which may be substituted, and dyes represented by the following formula (V): ##STR5## wherein R.sub.15 and R.sub.16 each represents a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group which may be substituted.

Cyan dye-donor element used in thermal transfer and thermal transfer

An impeller of a multiblade blower having at least two circular end plates or partition plates spaced apart from each other, and a plurality of blades disposed between the peripheral portions of the partition plates. Each of the blades is formed with a cylindrical portion having a uniform cross-sectional area, at the outer peripheral end thereof on the outer peripheral side of the impeller. The cylindrical portion has a diameter which is larger than the thickness of the blade at the outer peripheral end thereof so that the cylindrical portion is projected from both front and rear surfaces of the blade at the outer peripheral end of the latter.

A magenta dye-donor element and a thermal transfer sheet using it which can provide good printed images are disclosed. This magenta dye-donor element comprises a magenta dye dispersed or dissolved in a polymeric binder, said magenta dye comprising a dye represented by the following formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a trifluoromethyl group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy and a dye represented by the following formula (II): ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, a phenyl group, or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy-carbonyl group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl-carbonyloxy group, an aminocarbonyl group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy-carbonyloxy group, a cyano group, a phenyl group or a chlorine atom, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each represents a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alky; group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl-carbonylamino group, a phenylcarbonylamino group or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy group, and R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 each represents a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom, a bromine atom, a cyano group, a thiocyano group, a nitro group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylthio group or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylsulfonyl group. Preferably the magenta dye contains, in combination with the above two dyes, a dye represented by the following forumla (III): ##STR3## wherein Y represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydroxy group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy group which may have a substituent.

Magenta dye-donor element used in thermal transfer and thermal transfer

A yellow dye-donor element for thermal dye transfer and having good characteristics for ink formation, and a thermal transfer sheet made using the yellow dye-element, having adequate sublimatability or vaporizability, good coloring, with a high printing density on receiving papers, and high storage stability and light stability of printing image, and employable as a yellow color among the three primary colors are provided. The above yellow color-element comprises a yellow dye dispersed or dissolved in a polymeric binder, which is represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl group of C.sub.1 -C.sub.12, an allyl group or a crotyl group; X is hydrogen, halogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 lower alkoxy group; Y is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, phenyl, tolyl, or phenoxy group; and A is --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O--, or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --.

Dioxazine violet pigment clear in color hue, high in tinting strength and good in dispersibility, which is suitable for ink, is prepared by treating a crude dioxazine violet with sulfuric acid (to finer it) and then treating an aqueous suspension of the resulting dioxazine violet in coexistence of an alcohol and an inorganic salt.

Process for producing dioxazine violet pigment

An optical fiber which is able to transmit high power infrared energy, and is flexible and long in life is described. The fiber consists essentially of a mixed crystal of 40 to 45 wt % of thallium bromide and the balance of thallium iodide, each having a purity not less than 99.9%. A process for producing stable (.beta.-type) dioxazine violet pigment having superior gloss and tinting strength to the metastable (.alpha.-type or a type analogous thereto) dioxazine violet pigment, by mixing an aqueous suspension of a metastable dioxazine violet pigment with an acetate or ketone compound and then heating the mixture. The metastable dioxazine violet pigment may be that obtained according to the conventional method, and employable in situ.

Dioxazine violet pigment having a stable crystal form is advantageously produced by heating a mixture containing an aqueous suspension of a metastable dioxazine violet pigment obtainable in a conventional manner and an aromatic compound having a low solubility in water such as benzoic acid. This stable pigment is useful as a paint and excellent in tinting strength, gloss and dispersibility.
