An image reading device includes a glass having a document reading surface along which a document moves; an image reading unit movable in a sub-scanning direction and including a light emitting portion that emits light to illuminate the document with the light and a light receiving portion that receives the light reflected by the document, the image reading unit reading the document that moves along the document reading surface at a predetermined document reading position; and a light emission control unit that causes the light emitting portion to emit the light so that the light enters the glass through a side surface that crosses the document reading surface in an operation different from an operation in which the image reading unit reads the document.

Image forming apparatus

An exposure device includes a board on which a light source for emitting a light beam is mounted and on which a circuit is disposed, a housing that contains an optical system for guiding the light beam, a positioning member that positions the light source relative to the housing in an optical axis direction by contacting a reference portion disposed around the light source, and a deformable portion disposed in a region of the board that is different from a region on which the circuit is disposed. The deformable portion urges the reference portion toward the positioning member by being elastically deformed when the board is attached to the housing.

When a process cartridge is installed in a laser printer main body, a projecting rod, which is provided at a toner tank and which projects from a side surface of a housing of the cartridge, enters into a U-shaped positioning portion such that the cartridge is positioned. The projecting rod pushes a lever of a switch downward and turns the switch on. Operation of the printer becomes possible, and power is supplied to a light scanning device. Even if the cartridge, in which the toner tank is not installed, is installed in a laser printer, because the projecting rod does not project out, the process cartridge is not positioned, and the switch remains off. The printer does not operate and power is not supplied to the light scanning device.

Image forming device

An electrophotographic apparatus achieves miniaturization thereof and improvement of image quality. The shape of an optical scanning device mount frame mounting an optical scanning device is trapezoidal, and asymmetrical with respect to a center line thereof, and a short side part and a long side part are attached to a first and second frames of the apparatus, respectively. A space for attaching parts is available on the side of the first frame, and a driving device is placed inside the first frame so that the apparatus can be miniaturized. Since the optical scanning device mount frame is asymmetrical with respect to the center line thereof, as compared with one having a symmetrical shape, an eigenvalue of vibration can be shifted to a high frequency, and the mount frame is resistant to vibrate. Thus, the fluctuation of a light beam is suppressed, and the image quality can be improved.

Electrophotographic apparatus

Disclosed a multicolor image forming apparatus that facilitates correction operations to correct skews of a plurality of images. Turing a dial of an adjusting apparatus tilts a cylindrical mirror and thereby changes an irradiation position of a light beam to be irradiated onto a photoreceptor. Since the rotation of the dial and the movement of the cylindrical mirror correspond, an operator can know the state of the cylindrical mirror by visually checking a mark of the dial and a scale plate. When a color skew of images occurs, the operator can perform easily adjustment operations by the adjusting apparatus while checking a color skew amount and the state of a corresponding cylindrical mirror by the mark and the scale plate.
