According to one embodiment, there is provided a battery. The battery includes a metallic outer can, a wound electrode group, a positive electrode-lead, a negative electrode-lead, a positive electrode insulating cover, and a negative electrode insulating cover.

According to one embodiment, a battery includes an electrode group, a tab, a conductive nipping member, a case, a lid and a lead. The conductive nipping member includes first and second nipping sections. The first and second nipping sections divide the tab into two bundles in which portions of the tab are laminated onto each other in a thickness direction of the electrode group. The lead includes a connecting section connected electrically to a terminal, and current collecting sections which are two sections branched from the connecting section and sandwiching the nipping member.

A lithium ion secondary battery improved in large-current discharge characteristics, discharge capacity, and cycle life is disclosed. This lithium ion secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode comprising a collector and carbon fibers held to the collector for absorbing and desorbing lithium ions, a separator arranged between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The carbon fibers have a radial orientation from an axis of the fibers, and 50 vol % or more of all carbon fibers are arranged such that an angle between an axis of each carbon fiber and a surface of the collector is 45.degree. or less.

A method for preparing a positive electrode for a non-aqueous electrolyte cell comprises applying a positive electrode-active material, an electrically conductive agent, a dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene and a mixture of polyacrylic acid and water on one side or both sides of a supporting material, and then drying the coated supporting material at about 250.degree. C. for 5 to 10 hours.
