In an embodiment, a reactor includes a section, wherein at least a portion of the section includes a base layer, wherein the base layer has a first composition that contains a silicide-forming metal element; and a silicide coating layer, wherein the silicide coating layer is formed by a process of exposing, at a first temperature above 600 degrees Celsius and a sufficient low pressure, the base layer having a sufficient amount of the silicide-forming metal element to a sufficient amount of a silicon source gas having a sufficient amount of silicon element, wherein the silicon source gas is capable of decomposing to produce the sufficient amount of silicon element at a second temperature below 1000 degrees Celsius; reacting the sufficient amount of the silicide-forming metal element with the sufficient amount of silicon element, and forming the silicide coating layer.

A method of binding pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid and/or hydrofluoric acid, in flue gas in one or more combustion plants. The method includes the steps of (a) combusting fuel in a furnace of the one or more combustion plants, resulting in the production of flue gas containing pollutants, (b) introducing at least one of calcium oxide, limestone and dolomite, for forming calcium oxide, into the furnace for binding pollutants in the flue gas in the furnace, (c) causing flue gas to flow through a flue gas channel and a venturi contact reactor which are dimensioned so to provide a desired division of the moistened ash of step (e) into a portion entrained with the flue gas and another portion falling down into the retention tank provided in the flue gas channel, to a dust separator, which separates ash containing unreacted calcium oxide from the flue gas, (d) conducting a portion of the ash separated from the flue gas in step (c) to a moistening device, which mixes water amounting up to 50% of the weight of the ash into the ash, (e) conducting ash moistened in step (d) to the contact reactor, to mix the moistened ash into the flue gas, (f) causing a first portion of the ash mixed into the flue gas in step (e) to (g) causing a second portion of the ash mixed into the flue gas in step (e) to fall down into the retention tank, (h) hydrating at least a portion of the calcium oxide in the ash to form calcium hydroxide in the retention tank, (i) causing the ash to dry out during the hydrating step (h) and (j) recycling at least a portion of the ash from the retention tank to at least one of the one or more combustion plants.

Method and apparatus for binding pollutants in flue gas

An apparatus for reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in flue gases produced in a furnace of a combustion unit includes a device for maintaining combustion reactions in the furnace, the combustion reactions resulting in the production of hot gases containing nitrogen oxides, the hot gases flowing mainly upwardly within the furnace, internal heat transfer surfaces within the furnace for recovering heat from the mainly upward flow of hot gases, an introducer for introducing nitrogen oxides reducing agent into the upward flow of hot gases in the furnace, for reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the hot gases, wherein the introducer is integrally connected to the internal heat transfer surfaces, for keeping the temperature of the reducing agent at a sufficiently low temperature level upon introduction thereof into the furnace, and for efficiently mixing the reducing agent with the upward flow of hot gases, and a discharge for discharging flue gases from the furnace.

Method and apparatus for injection of NO.sub.x reducing agent

The present invention refers to an improved method and an improved apparatus for reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in flue gases produced by the combustion of carbonaceous fuel in combustion units having a furnace with a fluidized bed of solids therein. Hot gases produced within the furnace flow mainly upward within the furnace. Heat is recovered from the hot gases and hot solid material by heat transfer surfaces within the furnace. A nitrogen oxides reducing agent is introduced into the furnace through injection means integrally connected to the heat transfer surfaces, for keeping the temperature of the reducing agent at a sufficiently low temperature level at the introduction thereof and for efficiently mixing it with the mainly upward flowing hot gases.
