A rolling bearing includes an outer bearing race and an inner bearing race defining a bearing space therebetween. Rolling elements are mounted in the bearing space. A seal device is at one axial opening of the bearing space and includes a metal ring member with through holes configured such that lubricating oil can pass through the through holes and solid foreign substances cannot pass through the through holes. One of the outer bearing race and the inner bearing race is stationary, and the other is rotatable. The metal ring member is in engagement with the stationary bearing race. A metal or resin sub-ring member, which is a separate member from the metal ring member, is fixed to the rotatable bearing race. Between the metal ring member and the metal or resin sub-ring member, a gap is defined which constitutes a labyrinth seal structure.

Rolling bearing

It is desired to prevent generation of negative pressure in a bearing space and to prevent entry of foreign matter such as water into a bearing. The bearing includes an inner race (), an outer race (), rolling elements () disposed between raceways (and) of the inner and outer races and retained by a retainer (), and seal assemblies () provided at the respective ends of the outer race (). Each seal assembly () includes a seal case () fitted on one end of the outer race (), and an oil seal () mounted in the seal case. A check valve () is mounted in the seal case () and allows only a flow of gas from outside the bearing into the bearing space. A filter () is mounted in a flow passage in the check valve and allows passage of gas and prevents passage of liquid and solids.

Sealed rolling bearing

An object of the present invention is to prevent breakup of segments which constitute a split type retainer for a tapered roller bearing, when the tapered roller bearing is being mounted on target equipment, thereby improving operability in the mounting process. A segment for a tapered roller bearing is provided with a predetermined number of posts between a small-diameter-side end fringe which constitutes a small-diameter-side circumferential edge of a split type retainer and a large-diameter-side end fringe which constitutes a large-diameter-side circumferential edge thereof. Pockets are formed between the posts. At least the large-diameter-side end fringe, out of the small-diameter-side end fringe and the large-diameter-side end fringe, is provided with a large-diameter-side engagement piece. When the bearing is mounted, the large-diameter-side engagement piece is engaged with the large-diameter engagement member fitted and fixed onto the bearing's inner ring, whereby the segment is prevented from breaking up.
