A method and apparatus for effecting rapid thermal cycling of samples, by producing a high-velocity air flow through a closed loop flow path, and energizing an electrical heater within the closed loop flow path to heat the air flowing therethrough to a desired temperature. A sample holder is introduced into the closed loop flow path for exposing the sample holder to the high-velocity heated air flowing therethrough for rapidly heating the sample. The sample is rapidly cooled to a desired temperature by de-energizing the electrical heater, and opening an air outlet from the closed loop flow path, while continuing to produce the high-velocity air flow therethrough.

Method and apparatus for effecting rapid thermal cycling of samples in microtiter plate size

An electrophoretic system for real time analysis of a plurality of samples each containing at least one biopolymer is disclosed. The system includes (a) a holder for holding a plurality of removable gel cassettes, the holder supporting a plurality of electrode pairs electrically connectable to an external power source; (b) the plurality of removable gel cassettes each having an open top end and a bottom end and being designed for containing a gel slab therein, wherein each pair of the plurality of electrode pairs serves for creating a voltage gradient in a single gel slab, such that electrophoretic separation of the at least one biopolymer of each of the plurality of samples is effectable thereby; (c) a plurality of detector assemblies each including a plurality of detection units, each of the plurality of detector assemblies being intimately positionable at a region of one of the plurality of removable gel cassettes corresponding to a portion of the gel slab, each of the plurality of detector assemblies being for collecting information pertaining to at least one property of at least one biopolymer from the portion of the gel slab, whereas each of the plurality of detection units of a single detector assembly of the plurality of detector assemblies serves for collecting information pertaining to at least one property of at least one biopolymer in a subregion of the portion of the gel slab.

Electrophoretic system for real time detection of multiple electrophoresed biopolymers

An apparatus for controlling the temperature of at least one liquid reaction mixture, the apparatus including (a) at least one reaction vessel having open proximal and distal ends, the at least one reaction vessel including a gas permeable, liquid retaining, barrier positioned at a proximal portion thereof; (b) a pump being in fluid communication with the proximal end of the at least one reaction vessel through the barrier, for generating negative or positive pressure within the at least one reaction vessel, for translocating the at least one liquid reaction mixture through the distal end into and out of the at least one reaction vessel; and (c) a temperature controller being in thermal communication with the at least one reaction vessel for controlling the temperature of the at least one liquid reaction mixture when maintained within the at least one reaction vessel.
