An exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure provides a rechargeable battery including: an electrode assembly that includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode; a case that accommodates the electrode assembly, in one lateral surface of which a hole is formed, and that includes an opening formed in another lateral surface facing the one lateral surface; a sealing portion that is connected to the hole and seals the hole so that a lateral surface of the case is flattened; a cap plate combined with the opening; and a second terminal that is connected to the second electrode and is protruded outside the case while passing through the cap plate, wherein the hole may have a shape recessed toward the electrode assembly with respect to a surface of the case.

Rechargeable battery

Disclosed is a rechargeable battery including an electrode assembly and a housing for the electrode assembly. The housing includes a case having an opening therein, the opening exposing case sides the case configured to receive the electrode assembly through the opening and a cap plate to seal the case at the opening. The cap plate includes cap plate sides corresponding to the case sides, the case sides facing and contacting the cap plate sides at first and second contact regions, respectively, the first and second contact regions being asymmetric to each other.

A rechargeable battery unit includes an electrode assembly having a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator between the first electrode and the second electrode. The rechargeable battery unit also includes a case accommodating the electrode assembly. The case includes an opening in a first end of the case and at least one groove in the first end of the case. The rechargeable battery unit also includes a cap plate coupled to the first end of the case. The cap plate includes at least one protrusion received in the at least one groove in the case.

An electrode assembly includes a positive electrode including a positive active material layer on each of first and second surfaces of a positive electrode current collector, a negative electrode including a negative active material layer on each of first and second surfaces of a negative electrode current collector, and an inner separator between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, wherein each of the positive electrode and the negative electrode includes a side end uncoated region at respective side ends of the positive electrode and the negative electrode, the side end uncoated regions of each of the positive and negative electrodes including no active material layers on respective electrode current collectors, and wherein at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode has an inner uncoated region positioned at a center of the electrode assembly, the inner uncoated region including no active material layer thereon.

Electrode assembly and rechargeable battery having the same

A secondary battery including an electrode assembly, the electrode assembly including electrode plates and a separator interposed between the electrode plates, at least one of the electrode plates including a coated part, the coated part including a metallic plate having an active material coated thereon, and an uncoated part, the uncoated part including a metallic plate without active material coated thereon, the uncoated part including a folding line in the uncoated part, and a folding part with an end portion folded with respect to the folding line; and a current collector electrically contacting the folding part.

Secondary battery

A rechargeable battery includes: a case; an electrode assembly housed in the case and including a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator between the first electrode and the second electrode, the first electrode having a coated portion coated with a first active material and an uncoated portion absent the first active material; a safety assembly including a first electric conductive plate and a first supporting protrusion extending from the first electric conductive plate and physically coupled to the uncoated portion; a current collecting tab electrically coupling the electrode assembly with the terminal and physically coupled to the uncoated portion; and a first auxiliary plate physically coupled to the uncoated portion at a surface of the uncoated portion opposite to where the first supporting protrusion is physically coupled to the uncoated portion.

A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly having a first electrode and a second electrode, a first case housing the electrode assembly and electrically coupled to the first electrode, and a second case electrically insulated from the first case and housing the first case, wherein the second case is electrically coupled to the second electrode.

Rechargeable battery having multiple cases

A secondary battery includes a case having positive and negative electrodes, a safety device attached to a surface of the case and having a resistance value which changes during swelling of the case, and a protective circuit module attached to a side of the case while being electrically connected to the safety device. The resistance value of the safety device changes as the case swells, and the protective circuit module reduces or interrupts charging/discharging currents in response thereto. The safety device can be used for all secondary batteries regardless of capacity, can quickly react against abruptly rising internal temperature and rapid swelling, and can stably prevent swelling which occurs above an allowable temperature.

A secondary battery includes an electrode unit having a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, a separator interposed therebetween, and first and second electrode tabs respectively extending from the first and second electrode plates, a can adapted to accommodate the electrode unit and an electrolytic solution, and a cap plate adapted to seal the can and having an electrolytic solution inlet, wherein the electrolytic solution inlet has an area on one surface of the cap plate different from that on another surface of the cap plate.
