An apparatus for controlling the drive power of a plasma display panel in an driving apparatus of the plasma display panel. The apparatus preestimates a load ratio of an input video signal on a frame-by-frame basis, controls a number of display-discharge pulses in a corresponding frame to be inversely proportional to the preestimated load ratio, measures correlation of each frame with a preceding frame, controls the output timing of a discharge number controller according to the correlation and regulates a rate of change of the number of display-discharge pulses in a frame. The number of display discharge pulses in a frame is regulated to change more rapidly where the correlation is low and than where the correlation is high.

Apparatus for controlling drive-power of plasma display panel and a method therefor

A plasma display panel includes a front glass substrate, a rear glass substrate, address electrode lines, a first dielectric layer, scan electrode lines, a second dielectric layer, phosphor layers, Y-common electrode lines and X-common electrode lines. The front glass substrate and a rear glass substrate are opposite to and spaced apart from each other. The address electrode lines are formed on the front surface of the rear glass substrate in parallel. The first dielectric layer is formed in front of the address electrode lines. The scan electrode lines are arranged in front of the first dielectric layer to be perpendicular to the address electrode lines to define discharge cells at intersections. The second dielectric layer is formed in front of the scan electrode lines. The phosphor layers are formed in front of the second dielectric layer to be parallel with the address electrode lines. The Y-common electrode lines and X-common electrode lines are alternately arranged on the rear surface of the front glass substrate with the scan electrode lines interposed therebetween.

4-electrodes type plasma display panel, drive method and apparatus therefor

A method for driving an AC type surface discharge structure plasma display panel according to an electrode wiring structure is provided. In the method for driving the AC plasma display panel, there is a phase difference of no more than 180&deg; between the sustaining pulse applied to the Y electrode and the sustaining pulse applied to the X electrode in the three-electrode structure AC type plasma display panel in order to secure time for sustaining uniform wall charge and space charge characteristics. An address time slot constituted of a plurality of data pulses is set in a temporal margin space secured by collecting a plurality of sustaining pulses into a group. The data of each address time slot is assigned to time slots of a plurality of sub fields and is addressed.

Method for driving AC plasma display panel

A driving method of a plasma display panel for gray-scale display using subfields, in each of which an address step, a sustaining discharge step, and a reset step are performed. The method includes dividing the unit frame into unit drive periods corresponding to the number of gray scales, trisecting each unit drive period into a unit address period, a unit sustaining discharge period, and a unit reset period, dividing each unit address period into the same number of time intervals as there are subfields and allocating the divided time intervals to the respective subfields, starting the respective subfields sequentially with a time interval corresponding to the unit drive period and overlapping one another, and applying an address voltage between the scan electrode line and the address electrode line corresponding to the first unit drive period of the subfields during the time interval allocated to each unit address period, applying a sustaining discharge voltage between the common electrode lines and all the scan electrode lines during all the unit sustaining discharge periods, and applying a reset voltage between the common electrode lines and the scan electrode lines corresponding to the last unit drive period of the subfields during each unit reset period.

Method for driving plasma display panel

A resetting method for erasing wall charges remaining around a first display electrode and a second display electrode in a second sub-field following after applying a final sustain discharge voltage between the first display electrode and the second display electrode in a first sub-field on a plasma display panel, including the steps of applying a first voltage higher than and having the opposite polarity to the final sustain discharge voltage between the first display electrode and the second display electrode, to cause a first discharge and accumulation of wall charges, and gradually decreasing the level of the first voltage until the first display electrode and the second display electrode are made to be at the same potential, to cause a second discharge weaker than and longer than the first discharge by the accumulated wall charges, and erasing the wall charges.

Method for resetting plasma display panel

A driving method of a surface discharge plasma display panel includes a resetting step, an addressing step and a sustained discharging step. In the resetting step, a first voltage is applied between the scan electrodes and the address electrodes to accumulate wall charges in the respective pixel by a facing discharge, and the wall-charges accumulated by the facing discharge are removed. In the addressing step, a second voltage is applied between a corresponding scan electrodes and selected address electrodes so that a facing discharge occurs, to form wall-charges in the selected pixels. In the sustained discharging step, a third alternating-current voltage is applied between the scan electrodes and the common electrodes so that a surface discharge occurs in the selected pixels.

An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel in which front and rear substrates face and are spaced apart from each other, common electrode lines, scan electrode lines and address electrode lines are arranged between the front and rear substrates, the common electrode lines are arranged parallel to the scan electrode lines and the address electrode lines are arranged orthogonal to the scan electrode lines to define pixels at intersections thereof, the apparatus including a scan drive part having a memory in which scan data are stored in a predetermined scanning order, for applying a scan drive signal to the scan electrode lines in accordance with scan data corresponding to an input address, an address drive part for applying an address drive signal to the corresponding address electrode lines in accordance with an input display data signal, a common drive part for applying a common drive signal to the common electrode lines in accordance with an input common data signal, and a control part for processing externally input image data and generating the address, the display data signal and the common data signal.
