A display apparatus includes a display panel, a driving controller and a data driver. The driving controller processes input image data according to a variable input frequency and generates a data signal having a varied frame length. The data driver converts the data signal into a data voltage and outputs the data voltage to the display panel. The driving controller determines a variable frequency mode and generates an asymmetric data signal including a positive data signal and a negative data signal which are asymmetric with respect to a common voltage for a same grayscale value in the variable frequency mode.

A display device includes a first data driver which is disposed at an upper side of a display panel and supplies a data signal to data lines of a plurality of data lines, a second data driver which is disposed at a lower side of the display panel and supplies a data signal to remaining data lines of the plurality of data lines, and a signal controller which outputs a corrected image signal, based on a first lookup table which stores a correction value of a first input image signal for the first data driver and a second lookup table which stores a correction value of a second input image signal for the second data driver.

A display device and a driving method thereof are disclosed. In one aspect, the display device includes a display panel including a plurality of pixel rows, a data driver configured to transfer data voltages to the display panel, a gate driver configured to transfer gate signals to the display panel, and a signal controller configured to control the data driver and the gate driver. The pixel rows are divided into i (i is a natural number of 2 or more) pixel row groups including a plurality of pixel rows, respectively. The display panel displays one still image for one frame set including the i sequential frames, and each of the i pixel row groups is charged by receiving the data voltage for each frame of the frame set, and the frames in which the i pixel row groups are charged are different from each other.

The disclosed display device of improved display quality and reduced power consumption includes a display unit including pixels coupled to gate lines and data lines, a gate driving unit for outputting a gate signal to the gate lines, a data driving unit for outputting a data signal to the data lines, a voltage supply unit for supplying to the gate driving unit a gate-on voltage to generate the gate signal a gate-off voltage, and a kickback compensation voltage having a voltage level varied at a section of time of the gate-on voltage, and a display mode control unit for controlling the voltage supply unit to supply the kickback compensation voltage during a first display mode for displaying an image on an entire area of the display unit, and to block supply of the kickback compensation voltage during a second display mode for displaying an image on only a partial area.

Display device of improved display quality and reduced power consumption

A display device includes a signal controller and a data driver. The signal controller processes an input image signal to generate an output image signal. The signal controller processes the input image signal using a correction unit. The correction unit corrects the input image signal to a first gray scale value greater than 0 gray scale value when the gray scale value of the input image signal is 0. The output image signal is based on the corrected input image signal. The data driver converts the output image signal into a data voltage to be applied to a display panel.

Display device including gray scale corrector and driving method thereof

A display device and a driving method thereof is disclosed. In one aspect, the display device includes: a display panel including a plurality of pixels, a plurality of gate lines arranged in a column direction, and a plurality of data lines intersecting the plurality of gate lines; a data driver transferring data voltages to the plurality of data lines; a gate driver transferring gate signals to the plurality of gate lines; and a signal controller controlling the data driver and the gate driver. The signal controller includes: a vertical boundary detector determining whether a first pixel among the plurality of pixels is positioned in the vicinity of a boundary region of an image pattern based on an input image signal for the first pixel; and a first adjuster adjusting an image signal of the first pixel based on an image signal of a second pixel positioned in a row previous to the first pixel and the image signal of the first pixel to output an adjusted image signal, in the case in which it is determined by the vertical boundary detector that the first pixel is positioned in the vicinity of the boundary region of the image pattern.

A 3D image display includes a display panel operated in 2D and 3D driving modes and a barrier panel turned off in the 2D driving mode and turned on in the 3D driving mode to separate an image output from the display panel to left and right-eye images. The barrier panel includes a reference electrode, first barrier electrodes arranged in a first direction, second barrier electrodes alternately arranged with the first barrier electrodes along the first direction, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the reference electrode and the first and second barrier electrodes. Each first barrier electrode includes first electrode pieces arranged in a zigzag fashion along a second direction different from the first direction, and each second barrier electrode includes second electrode pieces arranged in the zigzag fashion.

A driving method of a display device includes: a display panel having a plurality of first blocks, a data driver applying data voltages to pixels of the plurality of first blocks, and a backlight having a plurality of second blocks respectively corresponding to the plurality of first blocks of the display panel, applying the data voltages to the pixels of the plurality of the first blocks during a plurality of data input periods corresponding to the plurality of the first blocks for one frame by the data driver, and a vertical blank period having no applied date voltage is positioned between the plurality of data input periods.
