An apparatus and method for improving a HARQ combining gain in a broadband wireless communication system are provided. The apparatus includes a seed information generator and a subcarrier allocator. The seed information generator randomly generates a seed value for changing a channel of a subcarrier and an interference pattern in a frame unit when a HARQ combining gain is not generated because an interference pattern is the same during a retransmission period. The subcarrier allocator allocates a subcarrier using the generated seed value.

Apparatus and method for improving hybrid automatic repeat request combining gain in a broadband wireless communication system

An apparatus and a method for raising a data throughput by dynamically changing the maximum number of iterative decoding times of an iteratively decodable code in a mobile communication system are provided. The apparatus includes an early stop controller for determining whether an early stop condition is satisfied during a decoding process according to a maximum number of the iterative decoding times, a Connection IDentifier (CID) controller for detecting a CID of a Media Access Control (MAC) header after the early stop, and an iteration controller for, when determining that a Protocol Data Unit (PDU) is allocated to the receiver apparatus by detecting the CID of the MAC header, resetting the maximum number of iterative decoding times after identifying a decoding block of a next PDU, and for, when the CID is not detected, resetting the maximum number of the iterative decoding times after identifying a next decoding block of the current PDU.

Apparatus and method for controlling iterative decoding in a mobile communication system

A rake reception apparatus for determining whether a paging channel is received in a mobile terminal using a Discontinuous Reception (DRX) mode. A searcher searches for a multi-path signal using a received signal output from a Radio Frequency (RF) part, and calculates an energy value for each hypothesis. A demodulator demodulates a Paging Indicator (PI) for a hypothesis for which an energy value calculated by the searcher exceeds a valid path threshold. A controller determines whether a paging channel is received, according to the demodulated signal output from the demodulator, and performs finger allocation using a multi-path search of the searcher if it is determined that the paging channel is transmitted.

Rake reception apparatus and method in a mobile terminal

An apparatus and a method for estimating a channel in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) communication system are provided. The apparatus includes a subcarrier demapper for extracting pilot symbols at preset positions for a channel estimation; and a channel estimator for acquiring channel estimate values of subcarriers through an Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filtering using the pilot symbols provided from the subcarrier demapper and a preset filter factor. Thus, the channel condition can be estimated by taking into account the channel change.
