A wireless communication system can include at least two base stations coupled with a network, the two base stations transmitting pilot signals that are used to make a soft handoff decision for a communication device based on base station related information received from the communication device, the base station related information being assembled within the communication device by continuously tracking selected base station pilot signals received by the communication device, the selected base station pilot signals sometimes including one or more pilot signals that are not assigned to rake fingers associated with a receiver coupled with the communication device, and at least one of the base stations delivering soft handoff information to the communication device after the soft handoff decision has been made by the network.

CDMA receiver downlink architecture for soft-handoff

A system comprising includes a clock generator module, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and a correction module. The clock generator module receives a system clock and generates a digital clock that is derived from the system clock, wherein the digital clock has an average frequency. The clock generator module generates a deviation indication that indicates a deviation of the digital clock from an ideal clock of the average frequency. The ADC receives an analog signal, receives the digital clock, and generates a first stream of values by sampling the analog signal at intervals based on the digital clock. The correction module receives the first stream of values and generates a second stream of values that are corrected based on the deviation indication.

Jitter correction

A receiver in a wireless communication system utilizes a metric to minimize the error probability in transmitted information. The receiver may use a detector utilizing multiuser detection or rake detection. The output symbols of the detector are examined and a metric is obtained related to the noise and interference that may have distorted the transmission of the symbol. This metric is supplied to a channel decoder along with the symbol to improve decoding.

A multi-user detector for use in a CDMA receiver system includes a channel tap interpolator to generate interpolated channel taps for users of interest. The interpolated channel taps occur at integer multiples of a chip period from a sampling reference point. The channel tap interpolation allows detection processing to proceed in the chip domain, rather than in the sample domain, thus reducing the complexity of the multi-user solution significantly. In at least one approach, a number of low dimensionality 'virtual' users are defined based on the recursive property of the spreading sequences. Solutions may then be developed for the virtual users using conventional detection (e.g., MMSE) techniques.

Low complexity multiuser detector

A communication device includes a noise flattening filter having a filter response that dynamically adjusts based on the current noise spectrum in a wireless channel. The noise spectrum of the wireless channel is estimated and used to determine a noise classification for the channel. A noise flattening filter response is then selected based upon the noise classification for use in filtering signals received from the channel. The filtered signals are then delivered to an equalizer for further processing.
