A system, computer-readable storage medium storing at least one program, and a computer-implemented method for identifying availability of media items is presented. A search query is received from a client device of a user. Instances of media items that satisfy the search query and that are available on content sources accessible to the client device of the user are identified. Aggregate information for the media items is determined based on the instances of the media items. The aggregate information for the media items is transmitted to the client device.

System and method for identifying availability of media items

Mechanisms for interpreting queries are provided. In some implementations, a method for interpreting queries is provided, comprising: receiving a search query in a search domain; determining search terms based on the search query; determining, for each of the search terms, whether a search term corresponds to an entity name, wherein the entity name is derived from metadata associated with the search domain; in response to determining that entity names correspond to a portion of the search terms, determining an entity type and an entity score associated with each of the corresponding entity names; determining a remaining portion of the entity names by removing at least one of the matching entity names based on the entity score and contextual information in the search query; and performing a search in the search domain with the remaining portion of entity names, wherein each entity name in the remaining portion of entity names is searched corresponding to the associated entity type.

Methods, systems, and media for interpreting queries

Systems and methods for providing search suggestions are disclosed. In some implementations, a method includes: at an electronic device having one or more processors and memory storing one or more programs for execution by the one or more processors: displaying a search field; detecting a predefined user activity relating to the search field over a first predefined period of time; and in response to the detection: displaying one of: (i) a suggested search feature demonstrating syntax of a system-supported user query, or (ii) a suggested search term related to a user's recent viewing activity. In other implementations, the method includes: displaying a search field; detecting user inactivity with respect to the search field over a first predefined period of time; and in response to the detection: displaying, in the search field, a search suggestion demonstrating syntax of a system-supported user query.
