Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for improving voice over new radio (VoNR)-to-voice over long term evolution (VoLTE). An example method generally includes communicating with and camping on a next generation node B (gNB) in a 5G new radio (NR) system; initiating a voice call with the gNB; receiving a 5G NR-to-long term evolution (LTE) handover command in response to initiating the voice call; performing a handover procedure in response to the handover command; detecting a failure in the handover procedure; and taking one or more actions in response to detecting the failure in the handover procedure.

Techniques for improving VoNR-to-VoLTE fallback

In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may determine that the UE is in an active communication session using a first radio access technology (RAT), wherein the UE is operating in a dual connectivity mode that uses a master cell group for the first RAT and a secondary cell group for a second RAT; determine that the UE is configured with a maximum transmit power, for the first RAT in the dual connectivity mode, that is less than a maximum transmit power threshold; determine that at least one of a power headroom (PHR) value or an estimated uplink block error rate (BLER) satisfies a condition; and transmit an indication that the secondary cell group has failed based at least in part on those determinations. Sustaining long term evolution traffic in power limited dual connectivity scenarios

Methods, systems, and apparatuses for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive information from a network node. The system information may include inter-frequency configuration and measurement reporting configuration. The UE may perform a measurement of a frequency or multiple frequencies that are associated with the inter-frequency configuration. Subsequent to the measurement, the UE may transmit a report of the measurement of the frequency or multiple frequencies to the network node during a radio resource control (RRC) connection procedure based on the measurement reporting configuration.

Radio measurement and configuration

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. One method may include a wireless communications device determining an inter-modulation distortion value between simultaneous communications on a first configuration of a first radio access network and a second configuration of a second radio access network, and dynamically switching between a non-standalone mode and a standalone mode of operation, based on the inter-modulation distortion value and a quality of service requirement for the standalone mode. The wireless communications device may also provide for time division multiplexing communications on a first RAT and a second RAT wherein only the first or second RAT is active during a period of time, and wherein the first RAT is an anchor for the second RAT.

Aspects of the disclosure relate to dual connectivity reporting. In one example, a dual connectivity communication is established, which includes a communication with a master node according to a first radio access technology (RAT), and a communication with a secondary node according to a second RAT. A change in measurement capability is then detected, and subsequently reported to the master node and/or secondary node. In another example, a scheduling entity establishes a first or second communication of a dual connectivity communication with a scheduled entity. The first communication is established according to a first RAT when operating as a master node, and the second communication is established according to a second RAT when operating as a secondary node. An indication is then received from the scheduled entity of a change in measurement capability, and the first and/or second communications are reconfigured in response to the change in measurement capability.

Aspects of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatuses that use various connection reconfiguration signaling schemes to enable fast user equipment reconfiguration in wireless networks. A network can reduce reconfiguration signaling traffic or overhead by reducing the amount of configuration data sent to each user equipment (UE) in a reconfiguration message. In some examples, when a UE first enters a network area, the network may provide the UE with a list of commonly used baseline configurations. Each baseline configuration may be identified by an index and a value tag. Subsequently, the network may transmit a reconfiguration message including, for example, only the index and value tag to indicate the desired configuration.

Fast user equipment reconfiguration signaling in wireless communication

Various aspects of the present disclosure enable a plurality of mobile devices (UEs) within a cell to spread out in time their respective transmissions of signaling messages, such as cell update messages, when the network enables or disables enhanced uplink (EUL, sometimes referred to as high-speed uplink packet access or HSUPA) while the UE is in the CELL_FACH state, by changing SIB5 or SIB5bis. In this way, the network load may be reduced, and a network blockage that otherwise might result from large numbers of UEs simultaneously transmitting the cell update message can be avoided. According to one example, a network node may be configured to distribute CELL_UPDATE messages or procedures to UEs when the network node enables or disables EUL in CELL_FACH by changing SIB5 or SIB5bis over time to reduce the network load. According to another example, a UE may be configured for utilizing a random timer or back-off timer to defer cell updates.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for using a message to update a user equipment (UE) radio capability. For example a method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) may include generating a tracking area update (TAU) message with an indication of a UE radio capability update, transmitting the TAU message, and detaching and reattaching the UE from a network if a UE capability inquiry is not received from the network or a capability mismatch between the UE and the network is detected.

Examples described herein relate to enhancing data communication performance in a wireless communication network including a first subscription associated with a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second subscription associated with a second RAT, where the wireless communication device uses a same radio frequency (RF) resource to communicate over both the first RAT and the second RAT. The first RAT is used, in part, for data operations while the second RAT is used, in part, for voice operations. During idle state voice operations, the RF resource is reallocated from performing data operations to performing idle state voice operations, causing interruptions in the data operations. The wireless communication device adjusts at least one or a duration and an occurrence of the idle state voice operations to reduce the impact on the data operations.
