A razor cartridge is provided having a housing and a blade assembly mounted to the housing. The blade assembly has at least one razor blade defined by a substrate having a first portion and a second portion. The first portion has first and second outer surfaces. The second portion has first and second sections separated by a split line. The first section has a first facet and an end facet. The second section has an end facet. The end facets of the first and second sections may converge at a tip to define a cutting edge. A shoulder may be positioned between the first facet and the end facet of the first section and define a skin-contacting surface.

Razor cartridge

A razor blade is provided comprising a substrate comprising a first portion and a second portion. The first portion may comprise first and second generally parallel outer surfaces. The second portion may comprise first and second sections separated by a split line. The first section may comprise a first facet extending directly from the first outer surface of the first portion and an end facet extending directly from the first facet. The second section may comprise an end facet. The end facets of the first and second sections may converge at a tip to define a cutting edge. The split line may pass through the tip and is generally parallel with and extends between the first and second outer surfaces of the first portion.

Razor blade

A razor blade including a substrate with a coating joined to the substrate defining a coated blade. The coated blade including a cutting edge being defined by a blade tip having a tip radius of from 50 to 350 angstroms. The coated blade having a pair of first facets extending from the blade tip and a pair of second facets extending from the respective first facets, a facet angle from 90&#xb0; to 135&#xb0;, a facet width from 0.38 micrometers to 0.65 micrometers a wedge angle from 5&#xb0; to 30&#xb0;, and a thickness of between 0.8 and 1.5 micrometers measured at a distance of 1 micrometer from the blade tip.

Razor blades having a wide facet angle

This invention relates to a novel application of hard, low friction aluminum magnesium boride (AlMgB, also known as BAM) based ceramic coatings to surfaces of razor components and in particular to blade edges of razor blades. On razor blade edges, these coatings may elevate blade performance, while also simplifying the manufacturing process.

A razor blade having a substrate with a cutting edge being defined by a sharpened tip. The substrate has a thickness of greater than about 2.30 micrometers measured at a distance of four micrometers from the blade tip, a thickness of greater than about 4.26 micrometers measured at a distance of eight micrometers from the blade tip, and greater than about 7.93 micrometers measured at a distance of sixteen micrometers from the blade tip. A hard coating joined to the substrate has a thickness of 700 Angstroms to about 3500 Angstroms. An outer layer joined to a coated substrate is discontinuous. The outer layer may be produced from a dispersion comprising about 0.03 g/L or less of telomer or from about 0.5 % solids or less of telomer by weight of composition. The novel razor blade cuts at less than 100 % cutting efficiency using a single fiber cutting efficiency measure.

Razor blades

A razor blade having a substrate with a cutting edge being defined by a sharpened tip is provided where the substrate is comprised of a molybdenum (Mo) content of about 1.6% to about 5% by weight of composition and thicknesses of 1.60-1.75 &#x3bc;m and 9.25-10.00 &#x3bc;m measured at a distance of 4 and 40 &#x3bc;m from the blade tip, respectively. This thickness ratio is between 0.165-0.185. The substrate thickness is about 2.70-3.00 &#x3bc;m at 8 &#x3bc;m from the blade tip, about 4.44-5.00 &#x3bc;m at 16 &#x3bc;m from the blade tip with a thickness ratio measured at 4 &#x3bc;m and 8 &#x3bc;m between 0.56-0.62, and a thickness ratio measured at 4 &#x3bc;m and 16 &#x3bc;m between 0.32-0.40. The edge shape may be defined by equation w=adwith 'a' between 0.50-0.62 and 'n' between 0.76-0.80. A semi-included angle less than 7&#xb0; is measured at a distance of 40 &#x3bc;m or greater from the blade tip. This substrate will have substantially no cracks.

A razor blade having a substrate with a cutting edge being defined by a sharpened tip. The substrate has thicknesses of 1.60-1.75 micrometers and 9.25-10.00 micrometers measured at a distance of four and forty micrometers from the blade tip, respectively. A ratio of the thickness measured at four micrometers to the thickness measured at forty micrometers is between 0.165-0.185. The substrate thickness is about 2.70-3.00 micrometers at eight micrometers from the blade tip, about 4.44-5.00 micrometers at sixteen micrometers from the blade tip with a thickness ratio measured at four micrometers and eight micrometers between 0.56-0.62, and a thickness ratio measured at four micrometers and sixteen micrometers between 0.32-0.40. The blade edge shape is defined by equation w=adwhere 'a' is between 0.50-0.62 and 'n' is between 0.76-0.80. An included angle of less than 7&#xb0; is measured at a distance of forty micrometers or greater from the blade tip. A nitrided substrate may also be provided.

The invention discloses a novel application of standard printed circuit board (PCB) assembly modules, electronic assembly, and/or semiconductor assembly equipment for the assembly of consumer products, such as razor cartridges. In addition, nozzles of the pick/place component placement machine of the present invention may be desirably adapted to operate on type of razor cartridge component (e.g., blade, lubricating strip) disposed on a pallet. The adapted nozzle may include adaptors which may have an elongated portion, an angled portion, a tapered portion, a gripper portion, a curved portion, a rounded portion, a pointed tip, a stamper, a marker, a printer, a guide portion, a spring portion, a moveable leg, or any combination thereof, for operating on a razor cartridge component.

A razor blade having a substrate with a cutting edge being defined by a sharpened tip. The substrate has a thickness of between about 1.3 and 1.6 micrometers measured at a distance of four micrometers from the blade tip, a thickness of between about 2.2 and 2.7 micrometers measured at a distance of eight micrometers from the blade tip, a thickness of between about 3.8 and 4.9 micrometers measured at a distance of sixteen micrometers from the blade tip, a ratio of thickness measured at four micrometers from the blade tip to the thickness measured at eight micrometers from the blade tip of at least 0.55 and a ratio of thickness measured at four micrometers from the blade tip to the thickness measured at sixteen micrometers from the blade tip of at least 0.30.
