User equipment (UE) includes an architecture for handling femtocell fingerprints, and searching for femtocells. The architecture may control the frequencies for which the femtocell search is performed in various manners. For example, the architecture may schedule a round-robin list of femtocell frequencies for measurement, and may reduce the search space according to the frequency bands actually in use in the region in which the UE is located, according to whether or not reselection timers are running for specific frequencies, or in other ways.

Method and system for task mapping based on corresponding virtual modem identifiers in an operating system for virtual modems within a multi-SIM multi-standby communication device

A communication device comprises a single radio resource unit that is shared by a plurality of virtual modems (VMs), each uniquely associated with a single one of a plurality of SIM cards. Traffic related to the SIM cards are concurrently handled utilizing corresponding VMs. Available radio resource in the single radio resource unit are shared by the VMs based on corresponding VM states, namely, an active state, an idle state and a suspended state. VMs in an idle state concurrently monitor paging events and concurrently perform idle mode procedures such as location updating. VMs not related to an intended traffic are suspended. A VM related to the intended traffic is transitioned from an idle state to an active state to enable the communication for the intended traffic. Once the communication is complete, the suspended VMs are resumed to continue idle mode activities.

Method and system for multi-standby operation for a multi-SIM multi-standby communication device

A wireless device for implementing Incremental Redundancy (IR) operations includes system processing circuitry operable to perform Physical (PHY) layer operations, Media Access Control (MAC) layer operations and Radio Link Control (RLC) operations of the wireless device. The system processing circuitry further includes an IR control module for processing IR transactions related to a received RLC data block and for tracking an Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) receiving state and received block bit map and a Layer 1 (L1) module for intercepting and diverting the IR transactions to the IR control module and for passing a correctly decoded RLC data block to the RLC layer operations via the MAC layer operations thereby automatically synchronizing the RLC layer operations. An IR processing module is coupled to the system processing circuitry to perform IR operations on the received RLC data block based upon a direction from the IR control module.

Edge incremental redundancy memory structure and memory management

A wireless device for implementing Incremental Redundancy (IR) operations includes an IR memory dedicated to storing data related to the IR operations. The IR memory includes a Type I IR memory adapted to store IR status information of a Radio Link Control (RLC) data block and a Type II IR memory adapted to store the RLC data block.

RF communications received by a wireless terminal from a servicing base station are used to determine the channel quality such as reported bit error probability (BEP). The RF communications may be in the form of RF bursts that are part of a data frame. An estimated BEP may be determined from the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the RF bursts and or a sequence of soft decisions extracted from the RF bursts, and their historical performance. The SNR maps to an estimated BEP based upon the modulation format of the RF bursts. The soft decisions decode to produce a data block. When the soft decisions decoded favorably, the re-encoded data block produces a sequence of re-encoded decisions. Comparing the re-encoded decisions to the soft decisions yields a re-encoded bit error (RBER). The reported BEP may be based upon the estimated BEP, RBER, and/or RBER threshold. The RBER threshold may be adaptively incremented or decremented depending upon whether or not the RF communications were properly decoded. The size of the increment or decrement may be based on the channel quality.

Adaptive channel quality estimation algorithm to support link adaptation

A system for implementing Incremental Redundancy (IR) operations in a wireless receiver includes at least one processing device, an IR processing function, and IR memory. The at least one processing device is operable to receive analog signals corresponding to a data block, to sample the analog signals to produce samples, to equalize the samples to produce soft decision bits corresponding to the data block, and to initiate IR operations. The IR processing function is operable to perform IR operations on the soft decision bits of the data block in an attempt to correctly decode the data block. The IR memory operably couples to the IR processing function, includes Type I IR memory adapted to store IR status information of the data block, and includes Type II IR memory adapted to store the data block.

A system for implementing Incremental Redundancy (IR) operations in a wireless receiver includes a baseband processor, an equalizer, a system processor, and an IR processing module. The baseband processor receives an analog signal corresponding to a data block and samples the analog signal to produce samples. The equalizer receives the samples from the baseband processor, equalizes the samples, and produces soft decision bits corresponding to the data block. The equalizer may be implemented as a distinct processing component or may be performed by the baseband processor or system processor. The system processor receives at least the soft decision bits and initiates IR operations. The IR processing module receives the soft decision bits of the data block and performs IR operations on the data block in an attempt to correctly decode a corresponding data block.

Edge incremental redundancy support in a cellular wireless terminal

The signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the RF burst is determined and a sequence of soft decisions from the RF burst are extracted. The SNR maps to an estimated BEP based upon the modulation format and coding scheme of the RF burst. The soft decisions decode to produce a data block. When the soft decisions decoded favorably, the re-encoded data block produces a sequence of re-encoded decisions. Comparing the re-encoded decisions to the soft decisions yields a re-encoded bit error (RBER). When the decoding is unsuccessful, the BEP is estimated only upon the estimated BEP derived from the SNR. Otherwise, both the estimated BEP and RBER may be used to determine the BEP.
