Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive a non-cell-defining (NCD)-synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) (NCD-SSB) configuration indicating one or more parameters corresponding to transmission, via at least one NCD-SSB burst, of at least one NCD-SSB set associated with at least one cell, the at least one cell comprising at least one of a primary cell or a secondary cell. The UE may receive the at least one NCD-SSB burst based at least in part on the NCD-SSB configuration. Numerous other aspects are described.

Non-cell-defining synchronization signal block configurations

A network entity configures a synchronization signal block (SSB) using SSB resources that convey a primary synchronization signal (PSS), a secondary synchronization signal (SSS), and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) within an SSB resource area of a resource grid bounded in time by a first configured integer number of time units and bounded in frequency by a second configured integer number of physical channels. A product of the first configured integer number and the second configured integer number is a predetermined constant value, each symbol of the SSB has an equal number of resource elements (REs), and all REs in the each symbol of the SSB, except REs within a frequency guard band between any two of the PSS, the SSS, and the PBCH in the each symbol of the SSB, have non-zero values. A user equipment receives the SSB in the SSB resources as a beamformed SSB.

Primary synchronization signal design

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which a user equipment (UE) may perform beam measurements for one or more subsets of beams that are selected to provide enhanced beam switch determinations. The UE may identify one or more prioritized beams, and may measure the prioritized beams at a same periodicity as measurements of a serving beam. The UE may, additionally or alternatively, identify a set of all layer one beams (e.g., maximum-level beams or top level beams) for measurement according to a periodic interval, based on a measured mobility being less than a threshold value. The periodic interval may provide that each layer one beam may be measured at a cadence of one beam per measurement occasion, in order to provide measurement diversity.

Techniques for beam selection based on measurement periodicities

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for beam failure detection and recovery. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes monitoring one or more first reference signals to detect a beam failure for one or more first control resource sets (CORESETs), transmitting an indication of the beam failure, and receiving a beam failure response after the transmission of the indication of the beam failure, wherein the monitoring of the one or more first reference signals for the detection of the beam failure stops in response to the reception of the beam failure response. The UE may then receive a configuration message after the reception of the beam failure response, and monitor, in response to the reception of the configuration message, one or more second reference signals to detect another beam failure for one or more second CORESETs.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive an indication of an antenna port mapping from a network entity. The antenna port mapping may be between a tracking reference signal and a corresponding reference signal, the antenna port mapping indicating a mapping of a tracking reference signal port to a plurality of reference signal antenna ports associated with the corresponding reference signal. The UE may receive a tracking reference signal via the tracking reference signal port based on the antenna port mapping. The UE may perform a channel measurement procedure using the tracking reference signal based on the mapping.

Port association with multiple demodulation reference signal (DMRS) ports

Methods, apparatuses, and computer-readable storage medium for wireless communication are provided. An example method may include transmitting, to a network entity, a capability for a transmission of one or more positioning SRS outside of an initial UL BWP during an idle state or an inactive state of the UE. The example method may further include receiving, from the network entity, a configuration for the transmission of the one or more positioning SRS outside of the initial UL BWP during the idle state or the inactive state. The example method may further include transmitting, to the network entity based on the configuration, the one or more positioning SRS outside of the initial UL BWP.

The described techniques relate to improved methods, systems, devices, and apparatuses that support random-access occasion (RO) selection for reduced-capability (RedCap) user equipment (UEs). A RedCap UE operating in a half-duplex mode may use the techniques described herein to efficiently select an RO in which to transmit a random-access preamble based on a duration between a latest received downlink transmission and the RO satisfying a threshold duration. The UE may receive system information mapping a set of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) to a set of ROs. The UE may then select an RO from the set of ROs in which to transmit the random-access preamble such that the UE has sufficient time to transition from a receive mode to a transmit mode to transmit the random-access preamble.

Random-access occasion selection for reduced-capability user equipment

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may perform a set of synchronization signal block (SSB) measurements and select a serving UE beam and a set of candidate UE beams for measuring a channel state information (CSI) reference signal (CSI-RS) based on the set of SSB measurements. The UE may identify, or predict, time resources for the CSI-RS based on previous CSI-RS configurations. The UE may measure the CSI-RS based on the time resources using a candidate UE beam from the set of candidate UE beams. The UE may transmit, to an access network entity, a measurement report based on measuring the CSI-RS using the candidate UE beam or a last CSI-RS measurement on the serving UE beam.

Techniques for beam selection using channel state information reference signal acquisition resources

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. For example, the described techniques provide for a user equipment (UE) to predict a gain state for an initial acquisition procedure. For example, the UE may use a machine learning (ML) model to predict an initial gain state which is likely to result in a successful initial acquisition procedure (e.g., without adjusting the gain state and reattempting the initial acquisition procedure). The UE may input UE history data or crowdsourced data (e.g., from a local network or a cloud-based server) into the ML model to generate a predicted gain state which may be more likely to result in a successful initial acquisition (e.g., without reattempting the initial acquisition procedure). The UE may use the initial gain state generated by the ML model to attempt an initial acquisition procedure with a network entity.

Efficient initial acquisition with gain state prediction using machine learning

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some wireless communications systems, a user equipment (UE) and a network entity may utilize multi-port mobility reference signals to assist with spatial based mobility procedures. The UE may receive a reference signal that is associated with multiple antenna ports. The UE may measure a multi-dimensional channel response based on the reference signal. The multi-dimensional channel response may be associated with measured channel metrics corresponding to the multiple antenna ports. The UE may transmit a report that includes a channel measurement vector based on the multi-dimensional channel response. The channel measurement vector may indicate multiple measured channel metrics for one or more dimensions of the multi-dimensional channel response. The network entity may transmit a message that indicates one or more metrics associated with mobility management for the UE based on the report that indicates the channel measurement vector.

Spatial metric based mobility procedures using multi-port mobility reference signals

This disclosure provides systems, devices, apparatus and methods, including computer programs encoded on storage media, for applying a zero element beam to conserve power in search and measurement operations of a UE. The UE may determine to measure a set of SSBs, where each SSB of the set of SSBs is transmitted on four symbols, and further determine a subset of the SSBs for which less than the four symbols associated with the SSBs are to be used for measurement of the SSBs. The UE may measure each SSB of the subset of the SSBs through less than the four symbols associated with the SSB.

Applying zero element beam in search and measurement procedure for power savings in MMW

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for signaling and scheduling to enable network configured small gaps in intra-band inter-frequency measurement. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, from a serving cell operating on a first frequency, an indication that synchronization signal block (SSB) indexes of a target cell operating on a second frequency can be derived from timing of the serving cell; and deriving an SSB index of the target cell, based on the timing of the serving cell.

Signaling and scheduling to enable network configured small gaps in intra-band inter-frequency measurement

Example implementations include a method, apparatus and computer-readable medium for wireless communication configured for estimating a channel using a set of predefined sensing beams to measure reference signals. Estimating the channel may include generating an N×N channel correlation matrix, where N is a number of antenna elements in the antenna array. The implementations further include generating a set of dynamic beam weights to maximize a reference signal received power (RSRP) based on the estimated channel. The set of dynamic beam weights may be based on an eigenvector of the channel correlation matrix. Additionally, the implementations further include applying the set of dynamic beam weights to an antenna array.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for cell measurement scheduling mode selection. According to certain aspects, a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE), generally includes selecting a first scheduling mode for performing cell measurements while the UE is in an idle state, in response to detecting at least one first triggering condition based on a comparison of a serving cell measurement to one or more neighbor cell measurements and performing cell measurements in accordance with the first scheduling mode, wherein the UE performs cell measurement more frequently when the first scheduling mode is selected than when a second scheduling mode is selected.
