A measurement tool configured to be run through a bore of a hydrocarbon well. The measurement tool includes a dielectric core, a controller disposed at a first end of the dielectric core, a first wire helically disposed about the dielectric core and extending from the controller to a first location a first distance from the controller, and a second wire helically disposed about the dielectric core and extending from the controller to a second location a second distance from the controller. The controller provides first and second input signals to the first and second wires, and receives first and second reflected signals from the first and second wires.

Systems and method for down-hole phase monitoring

A monitoring system for monitoring environmental conditions for rotary members includes a plurality of stationary reader antennas positioned proximate rotary members. A first sensor is coupled to a first rotary member and a second sensor is coupled to a second rotary member. Each sensor is configured to generate environmental condition data. A key phasor is coupled to a third rotary member and configured to generate key phasor data. The monitoring system also includes a data integrator communicatively coupled to each stationary reader antenna and configured to determine measurement values for the first and second environmental condition based on raw data from each stationary reader antennas and data from the key phasor.

Wireless monitoring system for rotary machines

A true time delay (TTD) module includes a substrate and a transmission line formed on the substrate. The transmission line includes time delay lines that define signal paths of varying lengths between a signal input and a signal output of the TTD module. A plurality of switching elements are positioned along the transmission line and are selectively controllable to define a signal transmission path between the signal input and the signal output. The switching elements include an input switching element positioned at a first end of each of the plurality of time delay lines, an output switching element positioned at a second end of each of the plurality of time delay lines, and at least one intermediate switching element positioned between the input switching element and the output switching element of at least one of the plurality of time delay lines.

A filter package and method of manufacturing thereof is disclosed. The filter device package includes a first dielectric layer having an acoustic wave filter device attached thereto, the acoustic wave filter device comprising an active area and I/O pads. The filter device package also includes an adhesive positioned between the first dielectric layer and the acoustic wave filter device to secure the layer to the device, vias formed through the first dielectric layer and the adhesive to the I/O pads of the acoustic wave filter device, and metal interconnects formed in the vias and mechanically and electrically coupled to the I/O pads of the acoustic wave filter device to form electrical interconnections thereto, wherein an air cavity is formed in the adhesive between the acoustic wave filter device and the first dielectric layer, in a location adjacent the active area of the acoustic wave filter device.

Embedded RF filter package structure and method of manufacturing thereof

A sensor system for determining a condition associated with a piston rod of a reciprocating system includes an interrogator system having a first antenna. The sensor system further includes a second antenna separated from the first antenna by an air gap distance. The second antenna is configured to be coupled to the piston rod of the reciprocating system. The second antenna is a patch antenna and is configured to communicate with the first antenna through a range of translational movement relative to the first antenna. The sensor system further includes a radio frequency sensor coupled to the second antenna. The radio frequency sensor is configured to be coupled to the piston rod of the reciprocating system, measure a characteristic associated with the piston rod of the reciprocating system, and transmit data associated with the characteristic to the first antenna of the interrogator system through the second antenna.

System for piston rod monitoring

A sensor system includes one or more rotor antennas on a shaft that moves within a stator bracket one or more of around an axis of the sensor system or along the axis of the sensor system, the one or more rotor antennas configured to communicate sensed data with one or more stator antennas on the stator bracket. Each rotor antenna has a rotor signal trace disposed on an outer rotor side of a dielectric substrate of the rotor antenna and a rotor return trace disposed on the outer rotor side of the dielectric substrate, wherein the rotor signal trace and the rotor return trace are not concentric with respect to each other. The one or more rotor antennas are configured to extend one or more of radially around an outer surface of the shaft of a sensor or along the outer surface of the shaft of the sensor.

Sensor system and method

A rotary machine includes a rotatable shaft and a retaining ring coupled to, and at least partially extending about, the rotatable shaft. The rotatable shaft defines a longitudinal axis. The rotatable shaft and the retaining ring define an annular cavity. The rotatable shaft and the retaining ring each include a radially outer surface. The rotary machine also includes a monitoring system including a stationary reader-antenna positioned proximate the retaining ring and a radio frequency (RF) coupler. The RF coupler includes at least one flexible antenna band coupled to, and extending over, the radially outer surface of the retaining ring. The flexible antenna band is configured to establish RF coupling with the stationary reader-antenna. A sensor die is coupled to the flexible antenna band. The sensor die extends into the substantially annular cavity and the sensor die is also coupled to the radially outer surface of the rotatable shaft.

Passive wireless sensors for rotary machines

The subject matter of the present disclosure generally relates to a sensor assembly having a first component configured to melt when a temperature of the sensor assembly reaches a first value below a minimum value of a predetermined temperature range, a second component configured to melt when the temperature of the sensor assembly reaches a second value above a maximum value of the predetermined temperature range, and a third component configured to monitor a volume of fluid disposed in a vessel when the temperature of the sensor assembly is within the predetermined temperature range.

Multifunctional sensor

A machine includes a first machine substrate and a second machine substrate and a monitoring system for the machine. The monitoring system includes a sensor subsystem including a sensor substrate integral with the first machine substrate and at least one sensor electromagnetic structure coupled to at least a portion of the sensor substrate. The at least one sensor electromagnetic structure includes at least one sensor conducting sub-component. The at least one sensor electromagnetic structure is configured to regulate electromagnetic fields incident thereto in response to at least one measurement characteristic of a machine measurand. The sensor subsystem is configured to obtain at least one measurement characteristic of the machine measurand proximate a machine sensing position.

Passive wireless sensors for turbomachines and method of operating the same

A radio frequency (RF) microelectromechanical system (MEMS) package includes a first mounting substrate, a signal line formed on a top surface of the first mounting substrate, the signal line comprising a MEMS device selectively electrically coupling a first portion of the signal line to a second portion of the signal line, and a ground assembly coupled to the first mounting substrate. The ground assembly includes a second mounting substrate, a ground plane formed on a bottom surface of the second mounting substrate, and at least one electrical interconnect extending through a thickness of the second mounting substrate to contact the ground plane, wherein the ground plane is spaced apart from the signal line.

Radio frequency micro-electromechanical systems having inverted microstrip transmission lines and method of making the same

A machine includes a machine substrate and a dielectric layer formed over at least a portion of the machine substrate. A monitoring system for the machine includes a sensor subsystem that includes a first portion of the machine substrate and a portion of the machine dielectric layer formed over the first portion of the machine substrate. The monitoring system also includes a sensor electromagnetic structure disposed on the portion of the machine dielectric layer. The sensor electromagnetic structure includes at least one sensor conducting subcomponent. The sensor electromagnetic structure is configured to regulate electromagnetic fields incident thereto in response to at least one measurement characteristic of a machine measurand. The sensor subsystem is configured to obtain at least one measurement characteristic of the machine measurand proximate a machine sensing position.

A radio frequency (RF) die package includes a switch assembly comprising an RF transmission line and a plurality of conductive mounting pads formed on a first substrate. A switching mechanism selectively couples a first portion of the RF transmission line to a second portion of the RF transmission line. An inverted ground plane assembly is coupled to the plurality of conductive mounting pads such that an electromagnetic field generated between the RF transmission line and the inverted ground plane assembly does not permeate the first substrate in a region of the switch assembly proximate the switching mechanism.

The sensing system includes an inductor-capacitor-resistor (LCR) resonant sensor includes a substrate, a plurality of first sensing elements mutually spaced apart and disposed on the substrate, a plurality of second sensing elements, each second sensing element disposed overlapping a corresponding first sensing element of the plurality of second sensing elements, and a protecting film applied onto the plurality of first sensing elements and the plurality of second sensing elements, wherein the protecting film is disposed to be in a physical contact with the analyte and is configured to enable an operational contact of the plurality of first sensing elements and the plurality of second sensing elements with the analyte.

Resonant sensor and an associated sensing method

A system includes a capacitor unit having one or more capacitors within a body of the capacitor unit, wherein the capacitor unit comprises at least two bushings. The system includes a monitoring system having a first antenna. The monitoring system is configured to couple to the at least two bushings to form a resonant frequency (LC) circuit having a capacitance based at least in part on an effective capacitance of the capacitor unit. The monitoring system is configured to send a first signal to a radio frequency (RF) reader at a frequency based at least in part on the effective capacitance of the capacitor unit via the first antenna. The first signal is associated with health of the capacitor unit.
