A display apparatus includes a display panel that includes a liquid crystal layer, a first pixel having the liquid crystal layer with a first thickness, a second pixel having a color filter and the liquid crystal layer with a second thickness. The display apparatus also includes a data generating unit configured to generate a first image signal corresponding to the first pixel and a second image signal corresponding to the second pixel in response to an input image signal, a data converting unit configured to convert a gradation value of the first image signal into a conversion gradation value of the first image signal according to refractive index anisotropy and the first thickness of the liquid crystal layer, and a driving unit configured to output to the first pixel a first data voltage corresponding to the compensation gradation value of the first image signal.

Display apparatus and method of driving a display panel

A display apparatus includes a display panel having a first liquid crystal layer, a timing controller that converts image signals to have gray scales corresponding to a first reference value, and compensates the converted image signals to over-drive the first liquid crystal layer, the first reference value being a product of a refractive index anisotropy and a thickness of the first liquid crystal layer, a first driver that converts the compensated image signals to voltages that drive the first liquid crystal layer, a liquid crystal lens panel including a second liquid crystal layer, a liquid crystal lens controller that generates lens signals corresponding to a second reference value defined by a product of a refractive index anisotropy and a second thickness of the second liquid crystal layer, and a second driver that convert the lens signals to voltages that drive the second liquid crystal layer.

Display apparatus

Provided is a display panel including: an array substrate; an opposite substrate facing the array substrate and including a second base substrate and a common electrode disposed on the second base substrate; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the array substrate and the opposite substrate. The array substrate includes: a first base substrate disposed in a display area and a non-display area; a photosensitive polymer organic layer disposed in a first non-display area and extending to a pad area, the photosensitive polymer organic layer having a taper shape at an end portion of the first non-display area; a thin film transistor disposed on the first base substrate in the display area; a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor; and a signal input pad connected to the thin film transistor and disposed on the photosensitive polymer organic layer in the pad area.

A liquid crystal display panel including pixels, wherein at least one of the pixels includes a first sub-pixel charged with a first voltage and a second sub-pixel charged with a second voltage lower than the first voltage, a first substrate including a first sub-pixel electrode of the first sub-pixel and a second sub-pixel electrode of the second sub-pixel, a first alignment layer aligned in first and second directions in each of the first and second sub-pixels, a second alignment layer aligned in third and fourth directions in each of the first and second sub-pixels to form a plurality of domains in each of the first and second sub-pixels, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second alignment layers, wherein the first sub-pixel electrode includes a plurality of slits formed substantially parallel to a liquid crystal alignment direction in each of the domains of the first sub-pixel electrode.

Liquid crystal display panel

In a liquid crystal display, a first alignment layer formed on a first substrate includes a first region aligned in a first direction and a second region aligned in a second direction opposite to the first direction, and a second alignment layer formed on a second substrate facing the first substrate includes a third region aligned in a third direction different from the first direction and a fourth region aligned in a fourth direction opposite to the third direction. The liquid crystal molecules interposed between the first and second alignment layers are aligned in different directions in different domains defined by the first to fourth regions. A pixel electrode includes an extension part extending in at least one of the first to fourth directions. The aperture ratio and the light transmittance of the liquid crystal display are improved.
