A method for adjusting discontinuous reception (DRX) behavior of a user equipment (UE) to conserve energy use includes exposing a DRX application programming interface (API) that enables DRX parameters to be changed and defining a conflict resolution policy that controls when requests to change the DRX parameters should be granted. The method also includes receiving, via the DRX API, a request from an application to change a DRX parameter for the UE. The UE is in wireless communication with a base station, and the application is configured to send data to the UE via a mobile network that comprises the base station. The method also includes determining, based at least in part on the conflict resolution policy, that the request should be granted and sending a command to the base station that causes the base station to communicate a new value of the DRX parameter to the UE.

Adjusting discontinuous reception behavior of a user equipment to conserve energy use

Techniques are described for balancing traffic load for networks configured in multi-rooted tree topologies, in the presence of link failures. Maximum flows (through minimum cuts) are calculated for subgraphs that incorporate effective link capacities on links between source and destination nodes. Effective link capacities may be determined that take into account link failures, as well as sharing of current available link capacities by multiple nodes. Traffic is balanced while simultaneously fully utilizing available link capacities, even available link capacities on partially failed links (e.g., partially failed Link Aggregation Groups (LAGs)).

Fault tolerant and load balanced routing

A reliable network function virtualization (rVNF) system includes a virtualized network function (VNF) application instance that includes a plurality of physical VNF instances. A load balancer provides an interface between a client and the VNF application instance. A load balancer interface facilitates delivery of packets related to a particular user context to the same physical VNF instance. A communication interface facilitates communication between the client and the VNF application instance. Application storage stores session data associated with the VNF application instance.

Reliable virtualized network function system for a cloud computing system

In some cases, a network monitoring system may determine an operating or health condition of a node or connection link in a network (e.g., a datacenter network) by preparing an encapsulated data packet according to a tunneling protocol. Depending on a result of routing the encapsulated data packet, the network monitoring system determines whether the node or connection link is functioning normally or is experiencing an issue such as overloading or malfunctioning.

Fine-grained network monitoring

Systems and methods for high availability cloud service provision are disclosed. A server receives, from a remote device, a request to access a specified service, the specified service being associated with a plurality of virtual machines, each of the plurality of virtual machines storing shared states associated with the specified service. The server provides, to the remote device in response to the request, a connection to a first virtual machine of the plurality of virtual machines and identifiers of other ones of the plurality of virtual machines. The server determines to end a data connection the remote device and the first virtual machine while continuing to provide the specified service to the remote device. The server provides, to the remote device in response to determining to disconnect the remote device from the first virtual machine, a connection to a second virtual machine of the plurality of virtual machines.

High availability cloud service provision

Techniques for facilitating wireless charging are discussed herein. For example, a power-consuming device may receive a light beam from a charging device. In response, the power-consuming device may determine a power level of a battery associated with the power-consuming device. The power-consuming device may wirelessly signal the power level to the charging device. In some instances, the power-consuming device may determine the power level of the battery without drawing power from the battery. Further, in some instances the power-consuming device may receive another light beam to charge the battery.

Automated charging

The techniques described herein reduce a rate at which a mobile device consumes energy when receiving, processing and storing data events (e.g., emails, instant messages, social networking messages and notifications, etc.). In various embodiments, the techniques may be implemented in accordance with a connected standby mode of operation for the mobile device. Therefore, the techniques may decouple data reception from data processing when exchanging data events in the connected standby mode. In various embodiments, the techniques may store persistent memory operations for multiple data events in a temporary cache and process the stored persistent memory operations as a batch (e.g., perform the persistent memory operations together). In various embodiments, the techniques may partition data storage space allocated for data communications applications on the mobile device.

Energy efficient data handling for mobile devices

Some implementations include identifying a location for a device perceived landmark. The location is identified by monitoring received signal strength of a signal of a wireless access point, detecting the location at which the trend in the received signal strength changes direction, and qualifying the location based on measurements taken form one or more inertial measurement unit sensors.

Crowd sourced pathway maps

An example method for managing a wireless network can include receiving, via a processor, an access point (AP) beam shape and an AP transmit direction corresponding to each of a plurality of access points (APs). The example method can also include receiving, via a processor, a client device beam shape profile from at least one of the plurality of access points. The example method can also further include calculating, via the processor, a location of a blocking object based on the AP beam shape, the AP transmit direction, and the client device beam shape profile from the plurality of access points. The example method can further include allocating, via the processor, client-to-AP associations based at least in part on the location of the blocking object.

Wireless communication using a central controller

The techniques discussed herein reduce the power consumption of a Wi-Fi tethering device by switching the Wi-Fi functionality of the Wi-Fi tethering device from a normal operational mode to a sleep mode during idle intervals. The techniques implement a sleep protocol where a Wi-Fi tethering device and the Wi-Fi client device coordinate and establish a sleep schedule. Moreover, the techniques describe a sleep interval adaptation algorithm to establish sleep duration intervals based on data packet exchange patterns associated with different applications executing on the Wi-Fi client device and/or different operations being performed by the Wi-Fi client device.

Server-centric high performance network architecture for modular data centers

Embodiments include processes, systems, and devices that allow a white space base station to request available frequency ranges for white space transmission in a local area. A white space finder service models a primary user device's transmission signal propagation area using terrain data associated with the local area of the primary user device. The white space finder service also determines, based on the location of the white space base station and the modeled propagation area, one or more locally available, non-interfering frequency ranges and provides them to the white space base station. The white space base station compares the provided frequency ranges to policies and selects one or more of the available frequencies that accommodate the policies. The white space base station also maps the transmission frequency ranges to virtual frequency ranges for transmission by a software-defined radio employing spectrum virtualization.
