The present invention takes the advantage of the WLAN resources in hotspots for voice and data connections and enables seamless handover between WWAN and WLAN and vice versa. This allows two users in the hotspots to communicate with each other by making a voice over IP (VoIP) or video call, thus achieving cost savings for the end users and WWAN resources savings for the wireless operators. According to one embodiment of the invention, a mobile terminal has wireless wide area network (WWAN) and wireless local area network (WLAN) interfaces. The mobile terminal via a WWAN. The method comprises receiving a registration message sent by the mobile terminal when it enters the WLAN, wherein the registration message at least contains a WLAN address that the mobile terminal acquires when entering the WLAN; establishing the mapping relationship between the WWAN address and the WLAN address of the mobile terminal according to the registration message; encapsulating the WLAN address into the data information to be sent to the mobile terminal according to the mapping relationship when receiving the data information to be sent to the mobile terminal from a source address; and sending the data information containing the WLAN address to the mobile terminal via the WLAN.

Method and system for seamless handover between WLAN and WWAN

The present invention provides a 3D handwriting recognition system that allows users to freely write words or characters in a 3D space in a touchless manner, without requiring any physical medium such as a pad or a tablet. The users' handwriting input in a 3D space will be tracked by an input device of the system that generates corresponding 3D motion data and wirelessly transfers the 3D motion data to a recognition device of the system. The 3D motion data will be converted and then mapped onto a 2D plane to generate corresponding 2D images for handwriting recognition. In this way, the users' inputting will never be limited to any screen, pad or plane, and the users will have more flexibility and enjoyable writing experience.

Method and system for handover between wireless local area network and wireless wide area network

A time reference point can be determined in a radio system by sending a synchronization sequence s(i), i=0, . . . N&#x2212;1, from transmitter X,to receiver Y,and by detecting the peak value at the output of a matched-filter,h(i)=s(N&#x2212;1-i) on Y. In practical systems the accuracy of this peak detection is limited by interference and noise on the radio channel. To increase the peak detection accuracy, we propose to repeat the transmission of the same synchronization sequence K times. The interval L between repetitions is constant and the amplitude of the synchronization sequence in each repetition varies according to a given variation pattern a(jL), j=0, . . . , K&#x2212;1. The receiver Y,knows L and a(jL), j=0, . . . , K&#x2212;1. After comparison to a threshold, the matched-filterat the receivermay deliver peaks resulted from repeatedly received synchronization sequences or peaks caused by interference and/or noise.

The present invention provides a wireless communication system capable of managing peer-to-peer (P2P) communications. In one embodiment of the invention, upon receiving a request for initiating a call, the system determines whether P2P communication can be established between the two mobile terminals. The system also determines an operating mode of the two mobile terminals for P2P communication. If the P2P communication can be established between the two mobile terminals and both mobile terminals are in a default mode for P2P communication, the system establishes P2P communication between the two mobile terminals. On the other hand, if any one of the mobile terminals is in a prompt mode, the system sends a prompt to the mobile terminal in the prompt mode, along with information about incentives for using P2P communication services. If the user of the mobile terminal in the prompt mode selects the P2P communication services, the system allocates resources for setting up a P2P link between the two mobile terminals. After the P2P communication is completed, the system sends discounted billing information to the mobile terminals.

Method and system for peer-to-peer communication management in wireless communication networks

A method is proposed for maintaining uplink synchronization with P2P communication in wireless communication networks, comprising steps of: the wireless communication system overhears the P2P communication between two UEs (user equipments), determines the SS (synchronization shift) information of said UEs according to the overheard information transferred by each UE in P2P communication, and transmits the SS information to the corresponding UE via the downlink common control channel; the UE monitors the downlink common control channel, and adjusts the TA (timing advance) for transmitting signals according to the SS information transferred via the downlink common control channel.

Method and system for maintaining uplink synchronization with peer-to-peer communication in wireless communication system

The invention relates to a wireless network defined as a group of wireless terminals and an assigned central station. After receiving requests for the wireless transmission of packets between a transmitting and a receiving terminal during a time multiplex frame, the central station assigns time slots within a following time multiplex frame for the transmission of packets from transmitting to receiving terminals. After reception of all the transmission requests, the central station determines a first subset of the group that intend to transmit to receiving terminals, and a second subset containing all transmitting terminals (of the group) that are not contained in the first subset. An order in which the transmitting terminals of the first subset will transmit is determined in accordance with the decreasing number of receiving terminals assigned to each transmitting terminal. The receiving terminals of the first subset are subdivided into a first group, and into a second group where the second group contains all the receiving terminals not contained in the first group, and the receiving terminals of the second group are selected for reception first in time.

Time slot sorting method for a wireless network

Centrally controlled wireless networks require reliable communications between the central controller and each of the stations within the wireless networks. The structure of a wireless network is often dynamic, or ad-hoc, as stations enter and exit the network, or are physically relocated. The selection of the central controller for the network may also be dynamic, either because the current central controller desires to exit the network, or because the communication between the current central controller and one or more of the stations is poor. This invention discloses a method and apparatus for assessing the quality of the communication paths among all stations in the network. This assessment is useful as a continual monitor of the quality of the network, and can be utilized to select an alternative central control station based upon the quality of communication paths to and from this station. Additionally, the quality assessment can be utilized to establish relay communication paths, as required.

Apparatus and method for peer-to-peer link monitoring of a wireless network with centralized control

A network has several network clusters each including at least one wireless network node which is designed for the wireless transmission of packets in time slots of given length in a time multiplex process. The length of the packets has at least a value which is smaller than the length of a fixedly given time slot. A wireless network node joins together several packets into a superpacket and sends the superpacket via a point-to-multipoint connection to all wireless network nodes authorized for the data transmission. Upon reception of a superpacket, a wireless network node will derive a packet from the superpacket if the destination of this packet lies within the relevant associated network cluster.

The invention relates to a wireless network with several network nodes which each comprise a radio device and of which one forms a transfer network node which is designed for the transmission of data between at least one concealed network node and all other network nodes. One of the network nodes forms a central network node for the control of the radio traffic. The central network node is designed for transmitting frame synchronization data for the formation of frames used in each radio device. The transfer network node serves for the exchange of certain data of the central network node with the concealed network node. The central network node is designed to carry out the exchange of the data between the transfer network node and concealed network nodes as regards the assignation of a sub-frame lying within a frame.
