A mutually capacitive touch sensor includes a first capacitor electrode and a second capacitor electrode. The second capacitor electrode is adjacent and spatially separated from the first capacitor electrode. An inner region is disposed between the first capacitor electrode and the second capacitor electrode, wherein the first capacitor electrode and the second capacitor electrode are arranged to surround the inner region. The inner region may include a hole for a backlight.

Mutually capacitive sensor for a touchpad

A capacitive sensing circuit includes circuitry to compensate for moisture or liquid spanning sensor units. The capacitive sensing circuit includes input terminals that couple with respective sensor units to receive sensing signals. A sensing block determines capacitance changes in the sensor units using the sensing signals and generates output signals indicative of the sensed capacitance changes. First switches are coupled with respective ones of the input terminals and are closed during a first scanning stage to couple the sensing signals from the input terminals collectively to the sensing block. Second switches are coupled with respective ones of the input terminals and are closed during a second scanning stage, to generate compensation signals to compensate for capacitance interference between the sensor units.

Moisture compensating capacitive sensing circuit

A touch sensor includes electrodes that are serially arranged and a processor with multiple input terminals. The electrodes are grouped into first, second and third groups of electrodes. Each electrode of the first group is coupled with a corresponding input terminal of the processor. The electrodes of the second group are sequentially coupled with the input terminals of the processor by way of odd numbered electrodes of the first group. The electrodes of the third group are sequentially coupled with the input terminals of the processor by way of even numbered electrodes of the first group. Each of the electrodes, other than the electrodes on the ends, is triggered simultaneously with at least one of its neighboring electrodes to provide sensed signals to the processor.

Touch sensor and method for determining touch position by grouping electrodes

An electronic device detects erroneous key selection entries or inaccurate actuation of a keypad. The device has a keypad with aligned keys. Each of the keys is partitioned into two sensor sub regions. A first one of the sub-regions includes at least a first sensor and a second one of the sub-regions includes a second sensor. A processor with a keypad sensor inputs is selectively coupled to the first and second sensors of each of the sub-regions. The second sensor of the first key and a proximal first sensor of an adjacent second key are coupled to a common keypad sensor input to provide indistinguishable sub-regions of adjacent keys. The processor is programmed to detect an erroneous key selection entry when only a key actuation signal is provided from the common keypad sensor.

Electronic device for detecting erronous key selection entry

A capacitive keypad position sensor includes a keypad touch panel having a first defined key area disposed in a plane having first and second orthogonal axes. First and second electrodes respectively occupy first and second areas below the first defined key area. Each electrode includes a plurality of parallel rows extending along the first axis and spaced apart from one another along the second axis. Each of the plurality of rows has a length along the first axis that is substantially equal to a width of the first defined key area along the first axis measured at a position along the second axis corresponding to the respective one of the plurality of rows. At least some of the first and second pluralities of rows are interleaved with one another.
