A mixer assembly for mixing, in a mixing tube of an exhaust aftertreatment system, a reductant with an exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine may include a mixer and an electrically heated heating element. The mixer may be positioned in proximity to the reductant injector. The electrically heated heating element may be positioned in proximity to an impingement surface of the mixer. The reductant may directly impinge, after being injected, on the impingement surface causing the reductant to vaporize and mix with the exhaust gas forming a vaporized reductant and exhaust gas mixtures that flows along a flow path defined by the mixing tube. The vaporized reductant and exhaust gas mixture may be heated and further mixed by the electrically heated heating element.

Electrically heated mixer assembly for an exhaust aftertreatment system

A sensor and housing assembly may include a sensor configured to detect a quantity of a gas in engine exhaust, and a housing including an inner upstream wall, a first inner side wall having a sensor opening for the sensor, an inner downstream wall opposite to the inner upstream wall, and a second inner side wall opposite to the first inner side wall, and having a housing inlet and a housing outlet that is opposite to the sensor opening in the first inner side wall. The sensor is positioned within the sensor opening on the first inner side wall, and a tip of the sensor protrudes through the housing outlet.

An engine exhaust aftertreatment system is disclosed. The system may comprise: an internal combustion engine having an intake passage and an exhaust passage; a turbocharger fluidly connected to the internal combustion engine, the turbocharger including a compressor and a turbine, the compressor being in fluid communication with the intake passage, and the turbine being in fluid communication with the exhaust passage; a reductant injector situated downstream of the turbocharger, wherein the reductant injector is closely coupled to the turbocharger such that a reductant is injected into an exhaust flow of the turbocharger; a first container downstream of the reductant injector, the first container including a multi-functional catalyst (MFC); and a second container downstream of the first container, the second container including a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) component and an Ammonia catalyst (AMOx) component.

Engine aftertreatment system

Systems, apparatuses, assemblies, and methods for diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) dosing can include a body defining an injector adaptor inlet and an injector adaptor outlet; and an injector mount or interface extending from the body. The injector mount can be between the first and second ends of the injector adaptor. The injector adaptor outlet can define an area greater than an area of the injector adaptor inlet. In a side view of the injector adaptor, at a bottom side of the body, a first straight line can extend along the body from the injector adaptor inlet to the injector adaptor outlet, and at a top side of the body opposite the bottom side, a second straight line can extend along the body from the injector adaptor inlet to the injector adaptor outlet. The second straight line can be at an acute angle relative to the first straight line.

System, apparatus, and method for diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) dosing

An exhaust pipe includes a first end, a second end, and a wall connecting the first end to the second end. The first end has a first opening, and the second end has a second opening that fluidly communicates with the first opening to define a bore. The wall includes an inner curved second and an outer curved section that includes an indentation. The indentation includes a first inwardly extending part and a second inwardly extending part. The second inwardly extending part includes a through hole having an inner opening and an outer opening. The inner opening is located between the outer opening and the second opening. A diameter of the outer opening is less than a diameter of the inner opening. A thickness of the second inwardly extending part is less than the diameter of the outer opening.

An exhaust system for an internal combustion engine includes an exhaust pipe, and a vane mixer attached to an upstream pipe end of the exhaust pipe and including a fluid injector mount, and a fluid injection side port in the injector mount and fluidly connected to an exhaust passage in the vane mixer. The vane mixer further includes a vane extending across the exhaust passage and dividing the exhaust passage into a major flow area and a minor flow area. The minor flow area is in overlapping angular alignment, circumferentially around a longitudinal exhaust passage axis, with the fluid injection side port.

A reductant impingement device includes a proximal end having an impingement pin with a convex surface; and a distal end having a body concentric with a longitudinal axis of the impingement pin. The distal end includes a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. A plurality of inner channels connects the first surface and the second surface, and a plurality of outer channels connects the first surface and the second surface, where the plurality of inner channels are disposed in a circular array at a first radial distance from a longitudinal axis of the impingement pin, and the plurality of outer channels are disposed in a circular array at a second distance from the longitudinal axis of the impingement pin.

Channeled reductant mixing device

A method and system for modeling growth of reductant deposits for an aftertreatment system on a real time basis using input including exhaust gas temperature, exhaust gas flow rate, and reductant dosing rate. The growth of the reductant deposits are affected by a rate at which reductant accumulates and decomposes from a surface of the aftertreatment system. Thus, the method and system disclosed determines a net reductant deposit growth rate value based on a reductant deposit accumulation rate value and a reductant deposit decomposition rate value. Further, the method and system disclosed determines a reductant mass deposit value based on the net reductant deposit growth rate value. The reductant mass deposit value determined by the method and system may then be used to control a regeneration strategy of the aftertreatment system to eliminate the reductant deposits from the aftertreatment system.

Method and system for modeling reductant deposit growth

An exhaust aftertreatment system includes a housing including at least one exhaust aftertreatment component. The housing defines a body portion and an outlet portion terminating in an outlet opening. The outlet portion decreases in diameter from the body portion toward the outlet opening. A sampling tube is positioned within the outlet portion and extends between opposing sides of an inner wall of the outlet portion, with the sampling tube having a plurality of openings facing the body portion. A NOx sensor is positioned in fluid communication with an interior of the sampling tube.

A dual mixer for mixing a reducing agent with exhaust gas in a mixing section of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment system is disclosed. The dual mixer may comprise a first mixer including a grid and a plurality of trapezoidal fins projecting from the grid in a direction of flow of the exhaust gas. The dual mixer may further comprise a swirl mixer positioned downstream of the first mixer and separated therefrom by a distance. The swirl mixer may include a base and three arrays of swirl fins projecting from the base in the direction of flow of the exhaust gas. The swirl fins in each of the arrays may be oriented in a common direction that is rotated by about 60&#xb0; from the common direction of the swirl fins in an adjacent array.
