Computer servers configured to perform digital image processing are discloses herein. In one embodiment, upon receiving a transcription command, a computer server performs text recognition based on patterns in a digital image to generate digital text data corresponding to the digital image. The computer server can then determine a content format of the digital text data based on the imported digital image and automatically apply the determined content format to the generated digital text data. The digital data can then be inserted into an electronic document.

Digital image transcription and manipulation

A messaging system configured for recommending messages is provided. The messaging system machine trains a prediction model associated with a user based on past review and response times for past messages. During runtime, the messaging system generates a predicted user action time for each new message based on the prediction model and tags each new message with a corresponding predicted user action time. Based on an amount of available time, the predicted user action time for each new message, and importance for each new message, the messaging system determines a recommended set of new messages that the user should read and respond to during the available time, whereby a sum of the predicted user action time of the recommended set of new messages is equal to or less than the available time. The recommended set of new messages are visually distinguished for the user.

Context and time prediction based message recommendation system

A chromatic confocal range sensor optical pen comprises a housing, an in/out optical fiber, a chromatically dispersive lens configuration, a reflected light dividing configuration comprising a lower NA zone and a higher NA zone, and a camera portion. The lens configuration is configured to receive source light from the optical fiber and output focused source light to a workpiece surface with axial chromatic dispersion, and receive reflected light from the workpiece surface and focus at least a portion of the reflected light to the fiber aperture. The reflected light dividing configuration is arranged to divide the reflected light into a measurement portion and an imaging portion. In some embodiments, the lower NA zone directs the imaging portion along an imaging optical path to the image detector, and the higher NA zone directs the measurement portion along a measurement optical path to a point proximate to the fiber aperture.

An optical encoder comprises an illumination source, a scale grating extending along a measuring axis direction, an optical portion, a moir&#xe9; grating, and a detector portion. The optical portion comprises an aperture portion for spatial filtering of scale light from the scale grating. The moir&#xe9; grating is configured to receive the spatially filtered scale light and output a spatially modulated fringe pattern toward the detector portion. The optical portion outputs the spatially modulated scale light to form a primary interference fringe pattern with a primary fringe pitch P. The detector portion comprises at least N respective detector elements positioned to detect N respective spatial phases of the periodic spatially modulated fringe pattern, where N is an integer that is at least three, and each respective detector element has a width dimension DW that is at least as large the primary fringe pitch Palong a direction of the fringe displacement.

An illumination portion is used in an optical encoder which comprises a scale grating, an imaging portion, and a detector portion. A light source outputs light having a wavelength &#x3bb;. A structured illumination generating portion inputs the light and outputs structured illumination. The structured illumination comprises an illumination fringe pattern oriented transversely to the measuring axis direction. A first filtering lens focuses the structured illumination proximate to a plane of the spatial filter aperture configuration. A spatial filtering aperture configuration includes a central portion that blocks zero-order portions of the structured illumination and an open aperture portion that outputs +1 order and &#x2212;1 order portions of the structured illumination to a second filtering lens. The second filtering lens outputs the structured illumination to a plane of the scale grating with an illumination fringe pitch Palong the measuring axis direction at a plane coinciding with the scale grating.

Illumination portion for an adaptable resolution optical encoder

A dual beam assembly is provided for attachment to a chromatic confocal point sensor optical pen. The optical pen provides a single source beam having a measurement range R in the absence of the dual beam assembly. The dual beam assembly includes a first reflective element that is positioned in the source beam and divides it into a first measurement beam and a second measurement beam. The dual beam assembly outputs the first and second measurement beams along first and second measurement axes to different workpiece regions and returns workpiece measurement light arising from the first and second measurement beams back to the optical pen. A second reflective element may be included and configured to deflect the second measurement beam along a desired direction. An offset may be provided between the measuring ranges of the first and second measurement beams.

Multiple measuring point configuration for a chromatic point sensor

A chromatic confocal point sensor optical pen comprises a multi-stage optical configuration providing an enhanced range-to-resolution ratio. The optical configuration comprises at least first and last axially dispersive focusing elements that combine to contribute to the overall axial chromatic dispersion of the optical pen. The first focusing element receives source radiation and focuses that radiation at a first focal region internal to the multi-stage optical configuration and the last focusing element receives radiation from a last focal region internal to the multi-stage optical configuration and outputs the measurement beam. Intermediate focusing elements may provide additional focal regions internal to the multi-stage optical configuration. This configuration provides an unprecedented combination of extended sensing range, compact lens diameter, and high numerical aperture. The focusing elements may comprise refractive lenses or diffractive optical elements.

Chromatic confocal point sensor optical pen with extended measuring range

A system and method provide a dual beam chromatic point sensor (CPS) system operable to simultaneously measure two surface regions. In one embodiment, a single beam CPS optical pen may have a dual beam assembly attached. First and second measurement beams of the system may be positioned on respective first and second surface regions, and both reflect light through a confocal aperture of the dual beam CPS. At least one set of measurements is determined, comprising a first and second measurement arising from the first and second measurement beams, respectively. At least the first surface region may be moved to acquire sets of measurements at various positions. Each measurement may be determined with extremely fine resolution (e.g., at least as fine as 10 nm). The system and method satisfy applications that require such resolution and accuracy without the use of an interferometer or other costly and complex elements.

Method for operating a dual beam chromatic point sensor system for simultaneously measuring two surface regions

A chromatically dispersive lens configuration including thermal compensation may be utilized in chromatic confocal point sensor optical pens for chromatic range sensing. The lens configuration may include a negative power doublet lens and a positive power lens portion. The positive power lens portion comprises at least two lens elements which compensate for the overall thermal sensitivity of a chromatic confocal point sensor optical pen. The lens elements of the positive power lens portion which compensate for thermal sensitivity have an average coefficient of thermal defocus which is in a range that is at lowest 10 ppm per 10&#xb0; C. The lens configuration can be implemented with dimensions which fit a standard commercial chromatic confocal point sensor optical pen, while maintaining a level of optical performance sufficient for chromatic range sensing.
