An engine valve actuating apparatus includes a housing that contains an activation piston bore and an actuation piston bore. The activation piston is disposed in the activation piston bore and configured to actuate an engine valve. The actuation piston includes at least one side surface that is in sliding contact with the inner surface of the actuation piston bore so that the actuation piston can slide within the actuation piston bore. The actuation piston also has a guide mechanism, which guides the first and second links to move in a plane between the first position and the second position. At least a part of the guide mechanism is below at least a part of the at least one side surface of the actuation piston.

A single valve compression release bridge brake is provided. The single valve compression release bridge brake includes a braking piston () integrated into an inner end of a valve bridge () which is located under a rocker arm () of an engine. The braking piston () is slidably disposed in a braking piston bore () opened downwards from the inner end of the valve bridge (). The lower end of the braking piston () is connected to the inner exhaust valve (). Oil is supplied to the braking piston bore () in the valve bridge (). The inner end of the valve bridge () above the braking piston () is pushed upwards against the rocker arm () by oil pressure, and a hydraulic linkage is formed between the braking piston () and the valve bridge (). A braking cam lobe () actuates the rocker arm (), the inner end of the valve bridge (), the hydraulic linkage, the braking piston (), and finally the inner exhaust valve () for the single valve compression release bridge brake.

A multifunctional engine brake, comprising an engine valve motion transformation mechanism, a slow seating mechanism (), and a timing oil control mechanism. By axially moving a roller () on a roller shaft (), the connections between the roller () and different cams () are switched, so as to implement the transformation between different engine valve motions. A roller axial driving mechanism () is disposed in the roller shaft (), thereby achieving a simple and compact structure, a symmetrical and reliable force, and easy manufacturing and assembling. The timing oil control mechanism provides timing oil supply or discharge for the engine brake, thereby eliminating the randomness of the opening or closing of a conventional engine brake, avoiding slipping and impact of the roller during roller translation, and improving the reliability and durability of the brake and engine. The slow seating mechanism () effectively reduces and controls the seating speed of the valve, thereby eliminating the compact within the mechanism. The brake can be used for different types of variable valve motions, comprising valve motions generating 4-stroke braking, 2-stroke braking, or 1.5-stroke braking.

A fixed chain engine braking device includes a brake box, a driving mechanism and a braking mechanism. One upright blind hole and one horizontal blind hole are placed in the brake box, and the upright blind hole intersects the horizontal blind hole orthogonally. The driving mechanism includes a rolling ball and/or a driving piston placed in the horizontal blind hole, the braking mechanism includes a braking plunger placed in the upright blind hole. A fluid passage is placed in the brake box, and the fluid passage is communicated with the entry of the horizontal blind hole.
