A structure and method for the wafer level testing of interposer-based photonic integrated circuits is described that includes the formation of an upturned mirror structure and the method of utilizing the interposer-based mirror structure for electrical and optical testing of optoelectrical circuits that include emitting components such as lasers, detecting components such as photodetectors, and both emitting and detecting components. Electrical activation of the optoelectrical emitting or sending devices and the subsequent detection and measurement of the optical signals in detecting or receiving devices provides information on the operability or functionality of the PIC on the die at the wafer level, prior to die separation or singulation, using the electrical and optical components of the PIC circuit.

Structure and method for testing of PIC with an upturned mirror

A bubble pump is provided. The bubble pump has an interior formed from a material that is resistant to attack by molten aluminum. The interior surface may be formed from a ceramic. The ceramic may be selected from the following: alumina, magnesia, silicate, silicon carbide, or graphite, and the mixtures thereof. The ceramic may be a carbon-free, 85% AlOphosphate bonded castable refractory.

Bubble pump resistant to attack by molten aluminum

A bubble pump having a steel tube pump body having an interior formed from a ceramic material that resists attack by molten metal. The pump further has a nitrogen supply line attached to a lower portion of the pump body. The pump body and nitrogen supply line are covered with a ceramic cloth material that resists attack by molten metal. The pump also includes a discharge head attached to the top of the pump body. The discharge head is formed of a cast ceramic material that resists attack by molten metal and includes a distribution chamber therein which has an ellipsoidal dome shape with a generally flat bottom and an ellipsoidal top. The discharge head also includes two discharge nozzles which have a square cross section. These features provide the inventive pump with extended service life and reduced discharge turbulence of the molten metal.

Pusher pump resistant to corrosion by molten aluminum and having an improved flow profile

Presented are an insulation brick and the method of using an insulation brick to create a thermal lining. A set of corrugations are formed into a sidewall of the brick to increase the thermal insulation. A first end of the insulation brick has a convex portion while the second end of the insulation brick has a convex portion. This allows a first insulation brick to mate with another brick in an end to end configuration.
