An apparatus and method for antenna matching according to a position and an angle of a portable terminal is provided. Operations of the portable terminal include, when at least one of a position and an angle of the portable terminal is changed, determining an optimal Tunable Matching Network (TMN) set value corresponding to the position and the angle, and performing antenna matching according to the optimal TMN set value.

Disclosed is a built-in type antenna apparatus for a portable terminal which separates an antenna from a slot antenna and includes an additional sub-antenna. The built-in type antenna apparatus includes a first planar antenna having a shorting point and a feeding point; a second planar antenna provided at a position adjacent to the first planar antenna, the second planar antenna having a shorting point and providing at least one slot; and a sub-antenna electrically connected to the first planar antenna and electromagnetically coupled with the second planar antenna.

Built-in type antenna apparatus for portable terminal

Disclosed is an antenna apparatus for a sliding-type portable terminal having a first housing and a second housing adapted to slide along the longitudinal direction of the first housing including an external antenna having a stationary antenna portion extending along the longitudinal direction and having an end fixed on the first housing and at least one movable antenna portion extending along the longitudinal direction and having the other end fixed to the second housing so that, as the second housing slides, it retracts in and extends out of the stationary antenna portion. The antenna apparatus for a sliding-type portable terminal has an external antenna which, together with the embedded antenna, compensates for the deteriorated performance of the embedded antenna during a speech mode. In addition, the antenna apparatus does not affect the design of the terminal and provides various types of terminal design, because it does not protrudes out of the terminal.
