Disclosed is a method for address privacy protection for a first wireless device sharing a privacy key with a second wireless device. In the method, a first resolution tag is generated at the first wireless device using a pseudo-random function with the seed value and the privacy key as input arguments. The privacy key is only known to the first and second wireless devices. A privacy address is generated for the first wireless device based on the seed value and the first resolution tag. A packet is transmitted from the first wireless device to the second wireless device. The packet includes the privacy address and the first resolution tag.

Apparatus and method for address privacy protection in receiver oriented channels

A spatio-temporal random voting scheme is provided that incorporates location distribution, spatial randomness, and temporal randomness in the collection of information from a plurality of sensing devices within the cognitive network. The region is divided into a plurality of sectors, where each sector is a portion of the region. A subset of sectors is selected from the plurality of sectors in the region to provide spatial randomness. A device is randomly selected from each sector in the subset of sectors to provide additional spatial randomness to the information collection process. Temporal randomness may be introduced by randomly selecting a timeslot within a sensing window period in which devices are to scan a frequency spectrum band to determine if a signal energy above a threshold is detected. Sensing reports are then collected from the selected sensing devices and used to determine whether the frequency spectrum band is available or in use.

Spatio-temporal random voting scheme for cognitive networks

One feature provides a method for transmitting content to a receiving device, by establishing channel hopping sequence information with the receiving device via a first communication band. The channel hopping sequence information is associated with a plurality of traffic channels within a second communication band. Moreover, the method entails transmitting the content to the receiving device through the plurality of traffic channels via the second communication band using a channel hopping scheme implemented according to the channel hopping sequence information. In one embodiment, establishing the channel hopping sequence information with the receiving device via the first communication band further includes: obtaining a channel hopping sequence key; and transmitting the channel hopping sequence key to the receiving device within the first communication band.

Channel hopping based content protection having an out-of-band communication band

Transmitting devices facilitate privacy protection of content broadcasted from the transmitting device to a receiving device without the need to modify the receiving device. A transmitting device may be adapted to acquire content, such as audio and/or video data, to be broadcasted by the transmitter for reception and use by a receiving device. A transmission range is selected to define a distance for broadcasting the content from the transmission device for reception and use by a receiving device. A frequency is also selected to be used for broadcasting the content. With the transmission range and frequency selected, the transmitting device may broadcast the content according to the selected transmission range and frequency.

Adjustable transmitter for privacy protection of content broadcast from a transmitting device to a receiving device

A method and/or apparatus are provided for protecting control information during broadcasts in a system where primary and second mobile broadcast control messages (PMBCM and SMBCM) are utilized. In order to protect the SMBCM, a first hash information instance is computed based on hashes for each a plurality of control data blocks for the SMBCM. The first hash information instance is appended to the PMBCM. Error-correcting code words are generated for the plurality of hashes for the plurality of control data blocks for the SMBCM. These error-correcting code words are appended to the control data blocks of the SMBCM. A receiver uses the first hash instance information in the PMBCM to determine if any control data blocks of the SMBCM are corrupt. If so, the error-correcting code words may be used to reconstruct the corrupted hash(es) for the control data block(s) in order to authenticate the remaining control data blocks.

Systems and methods for protecting a multi-part broadcast control message

Disclosed is a method for establishing a wireless link key between a remote device and a group device. In the method, the remote device obtains a group identifier from the group device, and determines whether the group device is associated with a group having a trust association with the remote device. When the group device is determined to be associated with a group having an established trust association with the remote device, the remote device forwards a link setup request to the group device for virtually pairing with the group device using the trust association to establish the wireless link key. When the group device is determined not to be associated with a group having an established trust association with the remote device, the remote device forwards a pairing request to the group device for pairing with the group device to establish the wireless link key.
