A dishwasher includes a storage part in which a washing target is stored. The storage part includes a base formed by crossing a plurality of horizontal bars and a plurality of vertical bars, a supporter portion coupled to the base and having a hollow formed therein, and a holder portion secured to the supporter portion and configured to be rotatable with respect to the supporter portion. The holder portion is configured to maintain a posture set with respect to the supporter portion by pressurizing the supporter portion.

A dish washer is provided that includes a tub that defines a space for washing dishes, a water supply unit that has a water chamber where water supplied from the outside collects, to wash the dishes, a sump that is supplied with water from the water chamber and supplies wash water into the tub, and a heat exchange passage through which the wash water in the sump flows and exchanges heat with the water in the water chamber while flowing.

Dishwashers and methods of control for operation of dishwashers are disclosed. The dishwasher may include an upper rack in an upper portion of a washing compartment configured to receive small dishes, such as a cup having a small washing load, and a lower rack in a lower portion of the washing compartment for placing large dishes, such as a dinner bowl having a large washing load. The operation of the dishwasher can include wash and rinse cycles having a plurality of sub-cycles. During the sub-cycles, the upper and lower racks can be selectively sprayed with water and steam can be supplied to the washing compartment based on configured conditions, such as a water temperature or operation time being reached. The operation of the dishwasher can reduce excessive washing of dishes having small washing loads and reduce power consumption of the dishwasher.

The dishwasher includes a tub for receiving dishes, a steam generation unit provided at an outside of the tub and generating steam that will be supplied to the tub, a steam passage along which the steam generated from the steam generation unit is supplied to the tub, and a chamber for storing water used for generating the steam.

The dishwasher may include an upper rack in an upper portion of a washing compartment for placing dishes, such as wine glasses, which are susceptible to damage. The dishwasher may also include an upper spraying arm in the upper portion of the washing compartment. During a wash cycle, the upper spraying arm can spray washing water toward the upper rack and steam may be supplied to the washing compartment at various intervals to reduce the risk of damage to the dishes and improve foreign matter removal. During a rinse cycle, water which may be heated in multiple stages by a sump heater may be sprayed toward the upper rack.

The present invention relates to a dish washer in which a structure for mounting a drain pump is improved for minimizing residual water, vibration and noise. A method for controlling a dishwasher includes sequentially performing a first main washing step, a second main washing step, and a third main washing step. The first main washing step includes supplying washing water, which is heated by a sump heater, to a washing chamber. The second main washing step includes selectively performing a steam spraying action for supplying steam to the washing chamber, and performing a water supplying action for supplying washing water to the washing chamber. The third main washing step includes supplying washing water, heated by the sump heater, to the washing chamber.
