A superconductor exemplarily described herein includes a superconducting material containing magnetic impurities and non-magnetic disorders formed in the superconducting material. The superconductor described herein is suitable for use in magnet applications and power transmission.

Improved oxygen barrier and oxygen absorbing compositions and structures comprising blends of xylylene group-containing polyamides and cobalt octoate and xylylene group-containing polyamides, polyesters and cobalt octoate are disclosed and claimed. These blends have superior barrier properties and clarity obtained by controlling the degree of orientation and the amount of cobalt. These novel blends are used as single layers and as the core layer in multiple layer films, structures and articles. When used in multiple layer structures, the adjacent layers are comprised of polyesters and/or polyamides. The structures made from the blends of the present invention have a clarity that is superior to structures previously known in the art.

Barrier compositions and articles made therefrom

Blends of polymers, such as aromatic condensation polymers including formable polyesters and polycarbonates with an oxygen barrier material such as aromatic or aliphatic nylon, an amorphous nylon or EVOH, which have been oriented and which contain a transition metal catalyst, exhibit the improved barrier properties and oxygen absorption properties of the present invention.

This invention concerns a neck tie structure, a tie, a neck band, and a knot former. The knot former has a groove extending from side to side on the knot former. The neck band is threaded through the groove. The neck band has fastener means at opposite ends to connect the neck band on a neck of a person wearing the tie. The tie has an intermediate tie loop portion mounted over a front face of the knot former with ends of the tie being projected along opposite sides and rearwardly of the knot former and rearwardly and beneath the neck band. The ends of the tie are extended upwardly and forwardly over the neck band between the intermediate tie loop portion and the knot former and downwardly beneath the knot former in lapped relation, the thus tied tie generating a tied knot about the knot former having an appearance of a four-in-hand knot.

Novel blends of (i) PET, PBT, CoPET, CoPBT or mixtures thereof with (ii) nylon, wherein component (i) is from a catalyst system based on antimony and germanium, or has virtually no residual cobalt and manganese are disclosed and claimed. A multiple layer sheet material comprising a first layer 12 of vinylidene chloride copolymer having a first softening temperature. A second polymeric sealant layer 14 has a second softening temperature no more than about 50.degree. C. less than the first softening temperature. An optional third layer 16 between the first and second layers has a third softening temperature greater than either of the first and second softening temperatures and comprises a polyethylene terephthalate composition. A fourth polymeric layer 18 has a fourth softening temperature greater than the first and second softening temperatures. The first layer is positioned between the third and fourth layers. A fifth impact layer 20 is positioned between layers 14 and 16. The composition of the impact layer 20 comprises, as a first component, a base polymer drawn from the same family of polymers as a major polymeric component of the second sealant layer, and, as a second component, a polymeric composition providing elastomeric properties to the impact layer and increased shock tolerance to the multiple layer sheet material. The disclosure also teaches the use of the sheet materials in fabrication of packages and teaches methods of fabricating both the sheet materials and the packages.

Novel films are disclosed which contain blends of ethylene-based copolymers or other elastomers with polypropylene and polyethylene. Multiple layer films, and novel polymer compositions, for use in packaging sterile medical products and shelf stable foods. The films include at least two layers of modified polypropylene-based compositions, and optionally a third layer of polypropylene-based composition. The two layers of the film comprise polypropylene polymers having melting point temperatures, differing by at least 3.degree. C., with corresponding ethylene contents disparate by at least 1 weight percent ethylene. In 2-layer films, the compositions include ethylene butene-1 copolymer in both layers, and optionally an elastomer in either or both layers. Three and four layer films are set forth wherein outer polypropylene based layers protect the inner layers, as of the two layer composition, from bonding to corresponding portions of adjacent like layers. The films can be fabricated into packages formed as by heat sealing.

Polymeric compositions and films

Sheet structures wherein the composition of one layer comprises a first component of a polypropylene, a second component of an ethylene-based copolymer, and a third component which provides some properties representative of elastomeric polymers. The invention further contemplates packages made from the sheet structures incorporating the recited compositions.
