The present disclosure relates to a method for preparing a super absorbent polymer that enables the preparation of a more improved super absorbent polymer even without excessive use of a surfactant and use of a foaming agent, and a super absorbent polymer prepared therefrom which exhibits a superior absorption rate.

The present invention relates to a super absorbent polymer exhibiting more improved absorption under pressure and liquid permeability, even while basically maintaining excellent centrifuge retention capacity and absorption rate, and a method for producing the same. The super absorbent polymer comprises: a base polymer powder including a first crosslinked polymer of a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer having at least partially neutralized acidic groups; and a surface crosslinked layer formed on the base polymer powder and including a second crosslinked polymer in which the first crosslinked polymer is further crosslinked via a surface crosslinking agent, wherein the surface crosslinking agent includes at least two compounds having a solubility parameter value (σ) of 12.5 (cal/cm)or more, and wherein at least one of the surface crosslinking agents is an alkylene carbonate-based compound, and the remainder is selected from the group consisting of an alkylene carbonate-based compound and a polyhydric alcohol-based compound.

The present invention relates to a method of preparing a super absorbent polymer (SAP). The preparation method for SAP according to the present invention includes: preparing a first polymer by carrying out a thermal polymerization or photo polymerization of a monomer composition comprising a water-soluble ethylene-based unsaturated monomer and a polymerization initiator; preparing a second polymer by carrying out a thermal polymerization or photo polymerization of a monomer composition comprising a water-soluble ethylene-based unsaturated monomer and a polymerization initiator; drying the first polymer; milling the dried first polymer; and mixing the milled first polymer with the second polymer in the free swelling state using the crosslinking solution to cause a crosslinking reaction of the first and second polymers. According to the present invention, it is possible to obtain a super absorbent polymer (SAP) having high centrifuge retention capacity and high absorption under pressure.
