An electronic device includes a flexible display and a device housing that defines a translation surface for the flexible display. A support layer is positioned between a portion of the flexible display and the translation surface. A rotor positioned within a curvilinear section of the flexible display causes a linear translation of the support layer across the translation surface by drawing the flexible substrate around the rotor. A flexible support structure can be positioned between the support layer and the flexible display, with the flexible support structure defining a plurality of engagement teeth with ends extending under one or more housing rails to prevent pillowing of the flexible display.

Electronic devices with sliding device housings and translating flexible displays and corresponding methods

An electronic device includes a first device housing and a second device housing that is slidable along the first device housing. The electronic device includes a flexible display and a slider framework fixedly coupled to the first device housing. A display mover slidably couples the flexible display to the slider framework, while a housing mover slidably couples the second device housing to the slider framework. An actuator coupled between the display mover and the housing mover causes the display mover and the housing mover to slide symmetrically in opposite directions along the slider framework when the second device housing slides relative to the first device housing between a closed position and an open position.

A hinge housing of an electronic device is coupled to a first hinge arm extending into to a first device housing a second hinge arm extending into a second device housing. The first hinge arm has a first pin extending from a terminal edge of the first hinge arm that engages a first slot defined by a first plate fixedly coupled to the first device housing. The second hinge arm has a second pin extending from a terminal edge of the second hinge arm that engages a second slot defined by a second plate fixedly coupled to the second device housing. The pins translate when the first device housing and the second device housing pivot to change a displacement between the hinge housing and the device housings, as well as to separate proximal ends of the first device housing and the second device housing in the closed position.

Hinged electronic device with displacement altering hinge and corresponding systems

An electronic device includes first device housing and a second device housing. The hinge housing is coupled to a first hinge arm extending into to the first device housing a second hinge arm extending into the second device housing. The first hinge arm has a first pin extending from a terminal edge of the first hinge arm that engages a first slot defined by a first bracket fixedly coupled to the first device housing. The second hinge arm has a second pin extending from a terminal edge of the second hinge arm that engages a second slot defined by a second bracket fixedly coupled to the second device housing. The first pin translates with the first slot and the second pin translates within the second slot, respectively, when the first device housing and the second device housing pivot to change a displacement between the hinge housing and the device housings.

In aspects of managing antenna module heat and RF emissions, an antenna module includes antenna elements that emit radio frequency (RF) signals for wireless data communication. The antenna module also includes an integrated heat sink to dissipate heat generated by an amplifier on the antenna module, where the heat sink is formed as a metallic component having a surface approximately coplanar with the antenna elements. The antenna module also includes one or more grooves that are formed into the surface of the heat sink, where the one or more grooves are effective to allow the RF signals being emitted from the antenna elements without deformation of a radiation pattern of the RF signals.
