A battery diagnosis apparatus for diagnosis of a cell group including a plurality of battery cells connected in series, includes a voltage sensing circuit configured to periodically generate a voltage signal indicating a cell voltage of each battery cell, and a control circuit configured to generate time series data indicating a change in cell voltage of each battery cell over time based on the voltage signal. The control circuit is configured to (i) determine a first average cell voltage and a second average cell voltage of each battery cell based on the time series data, wherein the first average cell voltage is a short term moving average, and the second average cell voltage is a long term moving average, and (ii) detect an abnormal voltage of each battery cell based on a difference between the first average cell voltage and the second average cell voltage.

A battery management system includes a sensing circuit to acquire a state parameter of each of a plurality of battery cells connected in series; and a control circuit to determine, for each battery cell, a first state of charge (SOC) change which is a difference between a first SOC at a first charge time and a second SOC at a second charge time by applying a SOC estimation algorithm to the state parameter acquired during charging. The control circuit determines a reference factor by applying a statistical algorithm to the first SOC changes of at least two of the plurality of battery cells. The control circuit detects an internal short circuit fault in each battery cell based on the first SOC change of each battery cell and the reference factor.

Provided is an apparatus and method for diagnosing a communication fault. The apparatus includes a first slave module, a second slave module and a master module. The first slave module receives a synchronization signal through the first communication line and a first output signal through the second communication line, and transmits an input signal through the third communication line. The second slave module receives synchronization signal through the first communication line, and transmits a comparison signal to the master module through the third communication line when the second slave module receives a second output signal through the second communication line. The master module transmits the synchronization signal, the first output signal and the second output signal, and diagnose a communication fault by comparing a value of the comparison signal with a predetermined reference value or a value of the input signal.
