Embodiments of the present invention are directed toward a rechargeable battery including: an electrode assembly including a first electrode and a second electrode, each of which includes an electrode plate and an electrode uncoated region; a case for accommodating the electrode assembly and having an opening; a cap assembly coupled to the opening to seal the case; and a current collecting member between the cap assembly and the electrode assembly and respectively coupled to an electrode uncoated region of the first electrode and an electrode uncoated region of the second electrode. The current collecting member includes a first current collector that faces one side of the cap assembly, a second current collector that contacts the electrode uncoated region, and a connecting portion that is shifted toward one side of the first current collector and connects the first and second current collectors.

A rechargeable battery according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes: an electrode assembly including electrodes at opposite sides of a separator, each of the electrodes having a coated region and an uncoated region, and the electrodes and the separator being spirally wound; an insulating case for accommodating the electrode assembly and allowing the uncoated regions to be drawn out through respective uncoated region holes; a case for accommodating the insulating case; and a cap plate coupled to an opening of the case and allowing electrode terminals respectively coupled to the uncoated regions to be drawn out through respective terminal holes.

A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly comprising electrodes having coated and uncoated regions, being located on opposite sides of a separator and spirally wound together with the separator; a case accommodating the electrode assembly; an insulating plate on the electrode assembly and having a protruding portion and internal terminal holes; and a cap plate sealing the case and having terminal holes, wherein each of the electrode terminals passes through a respective one of the internal terminal holes to protrude from that terminal hole.

The secondary battery includes an electrode assembly having a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator between the first and second electrodes; a case accommodating the electrode assembly therein, having a top and a bottom and an opening in the top of the case; a cap plate closing the opening of the case; a bottom retainer on an upper surface of the bottom of the case, the bottom retainer including a support portion supporting the electrode assembly and at least one contact portion contacting the bottom of the case. As such, the contact portion may absorb external shocks, thus increasing durability and enhancing safety of the secondary battery.

Secondary battery

A rechargeable battery includes a case having an electrode assembly, a cap plate to seal an opening of the case, and an electrode terminal in the cap plate. The electrode terminal includes a plate terminal at an upper area and a bent plate to electrically couple the plate terminal to the cap plate. The bent plate sets a gap between the plate terminal and the cap plate, and provides a current path from the plate terminal to the cap plate having a length greater than an interval between the plate terminal and the cap plate.

A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly including first and second electrodes; a case accommodating the electrode assembly; a cap plate having a short-circuit opening; a first terminal coupled to the first electrode; a second terminal coupled to the second electrode; and a short-circuit member at the cap plate, corresponding to the short-circuit opening, and configured to deform to electrically couple the first and second electrodes; and a short-circuit protrusion at the second terminal and configured to contact the short-circuit member, wherein a surface roughness of the short-circuit protrusion is greater than that of the cap plate.

A secondary battery having improved safety includes an electrode assembly, a case, and a cap assembly. The electrode assembly has first and second non-coating portions. The case accommodates the electrode assembly. The cap assembly includes a cap plate coupled to the case, and first and second collector plates. In the secondary battery, the first and second non-coating portions and the first and second collector plates are connected or coupled by first and second lead tabs, respectively, and the first and/or second lead tabs include a fuse portion.

A rechargeable battery is provided. The rechargeable battery includes a case, an electrode assembly in the case, a cap plate sealing an opening of the case, and a terminal portion attached to the cap plate. The terminal portion includes a terminal plate on the cap plate and electrically connected to the electrode assembly, and an auxiliary plate electrically connecting the cap plate to the terminal plate. The auxiliary plate has a plurality of openings for reducing a current flow along a short circuit current path.

A rechargeable battery includes: an electrode assembly including first and second electrodes; a case containing the electrode assembly; a cap plate covering an opening of the case; a first terminal protruding outside of the case and electrically coupled to the first electrode; a second terminal protruding outside of the case and electrically coupled to the second electrode; a current collector including first and second fuse units, and electrically coupled to the first electrode, wherein the first fuse unit and the second fuse unit each have a cross-sectional area smaller than a cross-sectional area of an adjacent region and are spaced from each other; and a connector coupled to the current collector between the first fuse unit and the second fuse unit, and adapted to electrically couple the cap plate and the current collector, wherein a resistance of the connector is less than that of the first terminal.
