In accordance with one aspect of the present description, a node of the distributed computing system has multiple communication paths to a data processing resource lock which controls access to shared resources, for example. In this manner, at least one redundant communication path is provided between a node and a data processing resource lock to facilitate reliable transmission of data processing resource lock signals between the node and the data processing resource lock. Other features and aspects may be realized, depending upon the particular application.

Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for embedding and executing trace functions in code to gather trace data. A plurality of trace functions are embedded in the code. For each embedded trace function, a trace level is included indicating code to which the trace applies. The trace level comprises one of a plurality of levels. During the execution of the code, the embedded trace functions having one of the levels associated with a specified at least one level specified are executed. The embedded trace functions associated with at least one level not comprising one of the at least one specified level are not invoked.

A rack-power control module (RPC) module is used for allowing a local storage partition, located on a local server, for controlling a destination storage partition, located on a destination server, by piggybacking commands on power alerts issued by the RPC module in a clustered storage system. The commands are sent from the local storage partition to the RPC module, where the commands are RPC commands and include a destination server identification (ID) and payload data that includes a hypervisor command containing a command type, a subtype, and a destination ID. The RPC module then parses the commands received from the local storage partition.

A system and method for concurrent operations in a microcontroller's program memory is provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a microcontroller system is provided that includes a microcontroller, programmable read-only memory (PROM), random access memory (RAM) and a bridge circuit disposed between the PROM and microcontroller. The bridge is adapted with memory-mapped registers to map specific address locations from RAM to PROM, to permit the microcontroller to update PROM while concurrently executing code from RAM. In another exemplary embodiment, the bridge circuitry includes microcontroller reset and RAM enable/disable capabilities to further efficiently manage memory resources.
