This liquid crystal display device () includes: a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer (); first and second substrates (); first and second electrodes () arranged on the first and second substrates to face the liquid crystal layer; and two photo-alignment films (). Each pixel region includes first and second liquid crystal domains, of which the reference alignment directions defined by the two photo-alignment films are a first direction and a second direction different from the first direction, respectively. The first electrode has a slit cut region (R), through which a slit () has been cut to run substantially parallel to the reference alignment direction, in a part of a region allocated to each of the first and second liquid crystal domains. The width (W) of the slit is set so that when the highest grayscale voltage is applied to the first electrode, an effective applied voltage decreases by at least 0.5 V and the alignment direction of liquid crystal molecules () shifts with respect to the reference alignment direction by less than 45 degrees.

Liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes: a plurality of gate lines; a plurality of source lines arranged to cross with the plurality of gate lines; a plurality of switching elements disposed in the vicinity of crossings of the plurality of gate lines and the plurality of source lines; and a plurality of pixel electrodes connected to the plurality of switching elements. The second substrate includes a counter electrode. A plurality of pixel regions are defined by the plurality of pixel electrodes, the counter electrode, and the liquid crystal layer interposed between the plurality of pixel electrodes and the counter electrode, and each of the plurality of pixel regions includes a reflection region and a transmission region.

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates, a plurality of pixel regions being defined by respective pairs of electrodes for applying a voltage to the liquid crystal layer, wherein each of the plurality of pixel regions includes a reflection region and a transmission region, and the first substrate includes, a transmission electrode through which light from a light source passes within the transmission region, and a reflection electrode by which ambient light is reflected within the reflection region, wherein the transmission electrode and the reflection electrode are electrically connected to each other in an interface area between the transmission region and the reflection region.

Liquid crystal display device and method for fabricating the same

According to the present invention, a method for repairing a defective pixel of a liquid crystal display device is provided. The liquid crystal display device includes a first transparent substrate on an internal surface of which switching elements are formed; a second transparent substrate which is provided being spaced apart from the first transparent substrate and on an internal surface of which a black mask pattern is formed; liquid crystal interposed between the first and the second transparent substrates having a twisted-nematic orientation; and two polarizing plates provided on external surfaces of the first and the second transparent substrates. The method includes the steps of: applying a photosensitive resin composition containing a photosensitive resin and a colorant to the second transparent substrate on a light-outgoing side of the liquid crystal display device; irradiating light rays from an external light source so as to cure the resin composition at a position corresponding to that of a defective pixel on the polarizing plate on the light-outgoing side of the liquid crystal display device, the position being on optical paths of the light rays incident from the external light source; and removing an uncured resin composition from a surface of the polarizing plate on the light-outgoing side. According to the method of the invention, a light-shielding portion is easily formed at the position corresponding to that of the defective pixel by patterning.

Liquid crystal display device and method for repairing defective

A thin-film semiconductor device having a CMOS inverter comprising a pair of n-type and p-type thin-film transistors, wherein the gate electrode of at least one of the paired thin-film transistors comprises a plurality of gate electrode sections spaced apart along the channel length. The channel region of the n-type thin-film transistor is doped with p-type impurities. This structure serves to reduce the leakage current and maintain high OFF resistance for a high source-drain voltage. Further, since a good symmetry of characteristics is maintained between the n-type and p-type thin-film transistors that constitute the CMOS inverter, no appreciable bias is caused in the output voltage of the CMOS inverter.
