A recording apparatus of the present invention comprises a compressed data processing unit for performing compression processing of second definition data to generate compressed data, a system data generating unit for generating system data including at least time code, an extended track number generating unit for generating extended track number on the basis of inputted second definition data, a memory unit for storing compressed data and system data, a read-out unit for reading out compressed data and system data which are stored in the memory unit, a control unit for controlling the read-out unit so as to read out, at a predetermined timing, the compressed data and the system data which are stored in the memory unit on the basis of the extended track number, and a recording unit for recording, into second sector, compressed data which has been read out from the read-out unit, and for recording, into third sector, along with extended track number, system data which has been read out by the read-out unit.

Recording apparatus and method

Audio signals and video signals are recorded as follows. Three video PES packets, each being formed of one video frame, are combined to form a video editing unit. Then, the video editing unit and the associated audio editing unit are alternately disposed on a magnetic tape. The recorded PES packets are output as a TS as follows. A STC is initialized, and then, PSI packets of a PAT and a PMT are output. TS packets specially used for a PCR for storing the STC are then output at certain intervals. Subsequently, video PES packets are converted into TSs, and the output of the video TSs is started while synchronizing a time obtained by subtracting vbv_delay from the first I-picture DTS with the STC. Audio PES packets are converted into TSs, and the output of the audio TSs is started while synchronizing a time obtained by subtracting the start up delay from the first frame with the STC. Data streams are recorded in the following manner. The three MSBs of a sync block (SB) header indicate the type of data to be recorded in the following data area. If the data type is PES-VIDEO or PES-AUDIO, a full/partial flag is recorded in the fourth MSB of the SB header. In the subsequent four LSBs, the continuity count value representing the continuity of the same type of SBs is recorded.

AUX data (denoted by U in FIG.) related to those pictures, audio data (denoted by A in FIG.) corresponding to those pictures, and AUX data (denoted by X in FIG.) related to the audio data are arranged together at the head of 16 tracks that undergo interleaving. A picture reproducing device in which a still picture can be recorded/reproduced to high picture quality without requiring a dedicated still picture processor or a RAM configured for storing picture data for processing by the dedicated still picture processor. In reproducing video signals from a recording medium having quantized and recorded DCT coefficient data for every DCT block made up of a pre-set number of blocks two-dimensionally arrayed as a continuous picture of video signals, the playback signals from the recording medium are dequantized by a dequantizer to generate DCT coefficient data from which playback picture data are generated by the inverse DCT processor, while motion detection is effected for every DCT block based on the DCT coefficient data. The resulting motion detection information is replaced by the LSB of the playback picture data of the corresponding DCT block by the deblocking-deshuffling processor.

Picture reproducing apparatus and picture reproducing method

A picture reproducing device in which a still picture can be recorded/reproduced to high picture quality without requiring a dedicated still picture processor or a RAM configured for storing picture data for processing by the dedicated still picture processor. Input video signals are all processed with DCT in a DCT/IDCT processor 4 as a continuous frame picture from one transform block to another and quantized by the quantizer/dequantizer 5 so as to be then recorded on a recording medium. At this time, still picture blocks are outputted as a frame, while moving picture blocks are outputted as twice-outputted single-fields.

A video signal processing apparatus and method for converting a frame-unit video signal into a field-unit video signal. The apparatus includes a memory for storing the frame-unit video signal, a control circuit for controlling reading of the stored frame-unit video data from the memory so as to obtain the field-unit video signal having fields which are arranged in a desired order, and a vertical filter which receives the field-unit video signal read from the memory. The vertical filter shifts a centroid of a picture represented by the received video signal in accordance with at least one coefficient which is selectively set based upon the field order. The reading of the video signal may be controlled so as to operate as a delay device thereby eliminating the need for such delay device in the vertical filter. When applied to a digital VTR or the like, the present apparatus prevents line flicker and suppresses plane flicker.
